Obama, US viewed less favorably in Arab world, poll shows from Political Intelligence

In 2008, the final year of the Bush administration, only nine percent of Egyptians had a favorable attitude towards the United States. A year later, after Obama took office, that number jumped to 30 percent. But now it has plummeted to just five percent of Egyptians who view the United States favorably.

Similar figures in Morocco, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates show that the United States is viewed less favorably now than the final year of the Bush administration.

POTUS, TOTUS and FLOTUS need to make another trip to the Middle East to settle the nerves

Interesting thing is the massive shifts in opinion from one year to the next. From 9 to 30 to 5.

Of course, this kind of report is just going to kill gsvol. I mean, if Arabs like Obama now roughly one third as much as they did when he took office, that sort of belies the Obama is a Muslim Agent conspiracy theory.

but we were promised Obama was going to make us more popular around the world. This has to be an error

When Bush was running against Kerry my best friend was in Egypt. He hated both candidates and didn't want to talk politics since most Egyptians know nothing about American politics. They do know they hate Bush and so Jason discovered he could easily kill the conversation:

Egyptian: Will you vote for Bush or Kerry?
Jason: I don't know, it's kind of hard. Bush has proven he's not very good, but Kerry is a Jew.
Egyptian: What?! You must vote for Bush.

LOL

[ X ] If Muslims like us less, its Obama's fault for not being more pro-Arab

[ X ] If Muslims like us more, its Obama's fault for being too pro-Arab

[ X ] No matter what, you will say its all Obama's fault because you are not intellectually honest

Though I agree you did capture a group of this country in your comment, it doesn't change the fact that Obama campaigned on giving us a better world rep. Then he adopted Bush's foreign policy once in office. Don't you hate him for that? I mean, if you agreed with him when he promised change in foreign policy and you are honest with yourself, shouldn't you hate him for the trickery? I sure do.

Depends. Plenty of people don't care if the Muslims don't "like" us.

No matter what, you'll rarely say it's Obama's fault because...

What your obtuse statement shows is that you don't
have the first clue about how Arabs think.

because nearly 3 years into Obama's Presidency, LG still isn't willing to let go of his "Blame Bush first" mentality

I don't blame Bush much for Arab sentiment. The current problems go back 50-60 years, minimum.

My point was that this is a no win situation for Obama. Heck, its no win for any U.S. prez.

Having said that, I do think that the notion that Obama is super-friendly to Arab nations because he is some sort of Muslim sympathizer is just stupid. But that's what a bunch of gsvol people try to argue all the time, all evidence to the contrary.

So LG, do you feel betrayed or not? Don't get so caught up with GS that you ignore fair questions/points.

No. It is Obama's fault because he naively thought/thinks that we're the problem.

They hate us for many reasons. One, it is easy to blame the successful for the failure of others... even if they had nothing to do with it. Two, a myriad of religious, historical, and cultural reasons. Three, our friendship with Israel. Four, we stand as an obstacle to the Islamic imperative to bring everyone under the "peace of Allah"... the rule of Islam.

I have repeatedly said that we would be better off if he were a "moderate" Muslim than a "Christian" taught black liberation theology for 20 years. FWIW, I don't think the UCC would care if he claimed to be both Christian and Muslim. IIRC, they have a pastor of a large church who professes to be atheist. I think they've been on the leading edge of efforts to bring Christians and Muslims together for worship and fellowship. Calling them hyper-ecumenical would not be a stretch or probably even an insult.

If he was still at 30% people on here wouldn't say a thing, or groan about how he is anti-american or what not.

Is the OP really finding fault in Obama doing something "better" than bush did?
