Obama: Health Care Reform 'Isn't About Me'

The moderate repubs and blue dog dems are making many of the legit points. They are certainly working together and coming to compromises with the administration. Look at the news coming out today, he is certainly willing to walk down the highway with those voicing legit opposition to come to a compromise.

a comprimise being what? either you have universal healthcare or you dont. all he seems to be comprimising on is the level of the coverage.

So, if someone loses their healthcare ins. through their employer, the new Universal plan would then cover them automatically?...

I worry about these things because my husband is a heart patient who has to go for several yearly check-ups and is on lots of heart meds that his current ins. helps pay for.

IMO the medications or access to them wouldn't be the problem. Any problems he would have would most likely come in the form of getting in to see a specialist in a timely manner. I would suggest you do some research into the Canadian plan or some of the European plans, loot at some of the stories about waiting to see a specialist and how long it takes. Not trying to scare you but you need to be informed, especially considering your husbands condition.

Of course he is pushing the bill, it is his bill...and if there is little understanding of what the bill actually means and it's implications then by definition some of this is just obstructionism to score political points.

Personally, I don't think that is the case. I think those voicing real opinions here understand what this bill will do to healthcare and the economy and that is why they are voicing opposition. Namely the moderate reupubs and blue dog democrats. Those that are making waterloo comments and what not are either giving fodder to the political obstructionism charge, or they are actually doing it.

Many of them do not trust Obama to begin with, that is the way politics work, especially with polarizing presidents. The fact that Obama has given the briefest of outlines on what this bill means for the average American gives them the legitimacy needed to obstruct his plan. I have heard that Obama is going to lay out the plan this evening. If this happens and does a good job of explaining what it means, what will and will not happen and why, then his opposition has to come back with alternatives and spell out why they believe it's a bad idea.

Obama has done a poor job of explaining what this means to Americans and dispelling their fears about. From what I gather it is more because no one really knows for sure at this point. He says it will cost this, the budget people come back and say otherwise. The simple fact is even the authors of the bill do not understand it fully, much less the implications. To pass the bill in this way is idiocy. This needs to be worked on for a considerable time, to make sure all the bases are covered and everything is understood and has been looked at from all angles.

This should take at least a year.....Would you buy a house by taking out an open ended mortgage without first knowing how much it was really going to cost and what problems it has or repairs it needs?

Where are you getting this? Honestly, how is this simple fact?

Look, I don't agree with the Obama plan, the point I am arguing is the charge he is simply playing politics to get it passed. Read the news, and it is apparent he is playing politics with those that want to play politics and working with those that actually want to work with him.

Granted it is my opinion based on general logic and experience with congress. There cannot be one person involved that knows what all the implications are and what all is contained in the bill. It is a 1,000 page bill, nearly impossible for the greatest minds on earth, and of those great minds there are zero that hold office in congress.

VBH....I just don't see it. Have you read the latest AP article on Obama and what he is saying about the opposition to healthcare reform?

Obama May Have to Wait for Health Care Passage - Political News - FOXNews.com

Here is a few highlights that don't exactly flow with your accusations:

While at the same time, the GOP is saying things like:

Now, don't get me wrong....I am certainly not a fan of UHC, and people like Michael Steele and some of the GOP in congress are making legitimate points. But there is in fact some of this "let's just break Obama" mentality going on. I don't think Obama is accusing everybody of obstructionism, just those that are doing it...and I also think he realizes the legitimate concerns that are being said and wants to work through them.

I don't buy it. He's trying to put pressure on those balking by saying they are obstructionist.

In your comments he makes no mention of Republicans having legit concerns. He is making no attempt to make this bipartisan.

He is making no attempt to make this bipartisan.

The irony is that he promised bipartisanship under his administration during the campaign and he has delivered, it just happens to be in direct opposition to his "baby".
