Obama invites Bush to Ground Zero commemoration of death of OBL

Obama's invite is protocol and political, imo. I have a hard time giving him Kudos on something that is not above and beyond.

I'm not going to sit and praise him, but I will respect it. Sometimes the right decision isn't a grand one, it's a common sense one.

I'm just getting sick and tired of this whole thing being so blame polticized. Bush made decisions that helped get the intellegence that led to him, and Obama made the decision to get him once everything lined up.

I don't care your politics, it's ok to say "job well done" to both guys when it is deserved.

When was the last time Barry made a trip to ground zero? Looks like he is milking this thing for all it's worth.

Totally agree with the key words, when it deserved. Here in lies varying opinions and perspectives.

It seems the joevols disease is more contagious than first thought.:boredom:

Why does he need to go there? To my knowledge he has never been there as president. Why go now? Because he wants to cash in as much as he can.

Why did Bush go there after the attack? Because he was the President. Bush did the right thing by going there in the beginning to commemorate the event/encourage a shaken nation, and Obama is doing the right thing by going there to do the same after the man directly responsible was taken out. They are both in the right because they are/were our leader whether you or I like it or not. Give the politics a rest for a minute and celebrate the nation's success.

EPIC FAIL. Like others have said, haters gonna hate.
To paraphrase Beecher, Obama has 2 decisions in the win column this week. Bush has been all class since leaving office, and I would have no problem with him attending the ceremony. I think he earned that right (and I disliked Bush very much and am no cheerleader for Obama).

I will give you the italicized part. All one has to do is recall the post Desert Storm Presidency of GHW Bush. After record approval ratings following the war, he forgot that "it's the economy, stupid." All positives from the bin Laden mission will be in danger of being forgotten if gas continues to skyrocket causing a double dip recession.

People in this nation can't can't even come together and celebrate the mission to kill public enemy #1 without bringing silly partisanship into it. Welcome to The United Two Political Parties of America. Washington was so right about the evils of political parties.

No one is happier that worthless bastard is dead than I am. But it's clear to me Barry is politicizing this by going to ground zero where cameras and reporters will be everywhere. How about meet with the families of the victims without cameras, without reporters? Because that would not get him any political points.

Wasting your time. Some people are so blindly loyal to a party that no matter what they do they will give them no credit. Obama can discover the cure for cancer and people would say it was all agenda. Obama has been inept so far but give him some credit. I honestly think the elimination of parties may be the only way to fix government and society. You really think whatever Republican gets elected in 2012 is going to fix this mess? Any Democrat? Until they start working together WE'RE SCREWED.

Good call by both parties. If Obama really wants to be a unifier he'll praise the groundwork laid by Bush to pull off this success.

Using that logic, why did Bush (or any other President for that matter) not just meet privately with the families and workers at Ground Zero instead of standing on top of a rubble pile with a bullhorn while reporters were present? Why has any President visited the site of any tragedy with cameras around. Bush did the right thing at Ground Zero. Obama is doing the same. You really are making more out of this than necessary. Presidents do these things, ALL Presidents.

Look, I am no great fan of Obama or any politician for that matter. But, I don't have a blatant hate for him or everything that he does. Your feelings are evident on the man, and those feelings shine through in your posts. I get the feeling that whatever Obama does would be wrong in your eyes simply because he is Obama. There is a time and place to discard petty partisanship and unite. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TIMES!:hi:

Bush going to GZ after the attacks and Obama doing it now are definitely different events. Not sure I'm against it now but the image of the Pres with a bullhorn was a very solid image for America

Yes.

I do see the value in Obama going there now though. As I stated above; it will be interesting to see if he acknowledges the ground work laid during the Bush admin that made this visit possible.

I have never tried to hide it, I despise him. He will go down as the worst president ever. He has done more damage to this country than anyone in the history of it.

I am glad he said "yes" to killing Bin Laden. That is where my compliments of him end. It took him 16 hours to make the call. Now he goes to a place where he has not been once since he has been president. What is the point in going now other than capitalizing politically on this?

wasn't the celebration on sunday the event?

I see it like a wake. A death announcement in the paper isn't enough to provide closure. The wake helps provide a measure of closure for the family and signals the beginning of the rest of their lives. This isn't a wake, but it can provide a measure of closure and allow the families, city, and nation to move on. Maybe a bad example, but that's what I've got.
