Obama is lying....AGAIN!

the "fixed income" for the average retired person is greater than the working income of the average 20-30 year old.

This is crap. Screw 'em, nobody deserves to live after age 62 if they can't afford HC, that is the American way.

So exactly how many young people are on fixed incomes?
who is forcing the fixed incomes? do people at 62 have to go there?

This is just another of the gifts of our gov't that has become almost a right.

Our gov't has, and should have, no obligation whatsoever to provide any sort of retirement package for anyone, beyond what they paid into the program and what it would have earned at the risk free rate.

Didn't start as a retirement plan but has morphed into one. Not a very good one, but a plan none the less. How many people retire with SS and MC as their main assets/income? I think many more than you believe.

isn't that their problem for not saving? merge it into welfare if you like, but stop giving money to those who don't need it.

The "fixed" portion of my income is $17,760 and I took a 20% hit to start getting it early. The average working 20 - 30 year old doesn't make that much? Your friends need to go make and get their GEDs.

just because you are poor that doesn't mean the rest of america is. the stats don't lie. retired people ON AVERAGE are the richest people in america. young people ON AVERAGE are the poorest.

it depends what you consider fixed income. if a guy has a 1Mil stock account, but no fixed pension plan does that mean he's really living off of medicare? sure his "fixed income" is almost zero, but certianly savings should be taken into account.

Interesting. I just find it hard to believe, on average, a retired person has a higher annual income than someone in their 20's.

maybe not a higher annual income, but certainly a higher standard of living. owning a house outright, not having debt, having savings, not having to provide for children etc means a lot more desposable income. in the great depression the average net worth of a retired person was lower than a young person. that is no longer true.

If that's directed at me, I don't recall saying I was poor. where are your stats on these statements.

You are the one that introduced "fixed income" to the discussion and other than long term bonds, SS is the only fixed income which I am aware exists.

BTW, you failed to answer the question of your statement being speculation or fact.

not even close. Many, many, many seniors live off of annuities or fixed investment contracts.

you are trying to argue semantics here. the fact is that the average retired american has more disposable income than the average 20-30 year old. that was not anywhere close to true when social security was created. if we merle limited social security to those who make less than 75k a year of all income (fixed or otherwise) and those who have less than a 1 mil of liquid assets we'd cut social security to managable levels.

That's EXACTLY how it should be. Work your ass off all your life, enjoy the fruits of your labor in your Golden Years.

Young people who want to be rich now have a goal.
