wonder how many out of work IT engineers will find gainful employment pouring cement for some WPA-style make-work program?
One thing that would really spur development would be to limit the ability of environmental activist groups (like the Sierra Club) to hold up projects because some critter might be endangered.
The plan:
1) payroll tax cut
2) extend UE payments
3) infrastructure bank
4) "investment" in green energy, education, etc.
5) rebuild schools
6) tax increases on "rich" sold as tax reform
7) lip service to regulatory reform
8-10) blame Republicans and Tea Party, Bush, earthquake, hurricanes, etc.
Did I miss anything?
What I'd like to hear:
1) Domestic energy production push including Keystone Pipeline
2) Removing head of NLRB
3) Obamacare repeal and restart
4) Tax reform - elimination of subsidies/loopholes and lowering of marginal rates to 2 or 3 categories (individual) and lowered rate on corporations.
5) Reduction or elimination of capital gains for long-term (> 1 year) investments in companies with less than 100 million in sales.
6) Cost/benefit analysis on all new regulation
7) Mandatory regulation sunsets
I could get on board with those. But, why number 1? Is the issue with energy prices right now lack of supply?
It's a perceived lack of ability to supply the enormous demand expected from a decently operating world economy.
I'm really less concerned about today's energy prices than I am long term.
I think this admin is way oversold on "clean" energy to the detriment of domestic production and development.
We've got it, we should use it.
