Our enemies have to be laughing. Hard to believe this jelly spined socialist is going to be the Commander-In-Chief. :shakehead:

I would be extremely surprised if Gates releases the detainees. I imagine that Gitmo will close, due to the public black eye, yet, most of these detainees will be transfered to decentralized holding areas.

I think our enemies probably only laugh when they see the comments of our right wing reactionaries such as yourself. The fact you could actually navigate a path outside of your bubble is quite the accomplishment

Ever wonder why terrorists don't snatch Russian or Chinese hostages?

Because they don't jack around. We need to present a nightmare scenario to any potential terrorists. The thought of being caught and detained should terrifying.

Years ago terrorists did kidnap a few Russian hostages. The Russians simply kidnapped the brother of the terrorist faction's leader. They sent the brother's nuts in a jar, with a promise other body parts would follow. Their citizens were quickly released.

I agree to a certain extent with the statment I have highlighted in bold. Your reasoning on terrorists not taking Russian and Chinese citizens is beyond stupid and wrong. Plain and simple. The dynamics of their presence in certain parts of the world where terrorism is more rampant isn't even close to the US. When is the last time you heard of Russia having a military base in the middle east? Not since the late eighties and even then, plenty of Russians got taken hostage by the Afghans and were tortured.

No, I'm 100% correct on that point.

Your Russian/Afghan statement is laughable. The Russians rolled tanks into Afghanistan. They were absolutely ruthless to the population while they were there. They didn't play by the pansy ass rules you liberals insist the USA play by. Did the Russians conquer the Afghans? No, but they cut the Afghans hands off, and scratched their asses with them while they there. They damn sure don't bother the Russians anymore.

it would not suprise me if he moved them into prisons and these guys end up getting out due to some liberal lawyers and judges.

the reason we were attacked in the first place is because of liberals. liberals have no sense of reality and now matter how many times we are attacked, libs will just turn the other cheek and blame America for it.

yes libs are laughing right now while they are getting ready to attack. i just hope Hussein o is smart enough to keep Bush's surveilance open.

Uh, why would the Afghans bother Russia? Russia went in Afghanistan to aid the communist goverment that requested their help against the Afghan resistance movement attempting to overthrow the current administration. Afghan hasn't bothered Russia because it is a country in despair with no way or means of attacking a country like Russia. You're also mistaken if you think muslim mujahideen are afraid of Russia because of the Afgan war. The 2002 Nord-Ost Siege and Beslan Massacre have showed that Chechan rebels have no fear of Russia, no matter how brutal the Russian response.

The Russians basically did the same things in Afganistan that we are doing. Conventional wisdom says that the Soviets were brutal and ruthless, yet, the actual history, and testimony from the conflict, says otherwise. The Soviets were very conscience of civilian casualties and tried to keep them to a minimum.

The Soviets built schools (for girls, as well), infrastructure, mediated between tribal conflicts, and encourage universal Afghan governance.

in his press conference, Bush made a great point about the countries that bitched the loudest about Gitmo were the first to refuse entry to any of the "guests" currently residing there.

the Club Gitmo detainees are treated better than the Marines that guard them.

I sincerely hope that if Obama does close Gitmo, the detainees held there are not granted entry into the US. They are not and should never be awarded Constitutional protections.
