Obama supporters know my pain

And regarding Reverend Wright, no doubt, the guy needs to shut his pie hole. But it is amazing to me how Caucasians react when the tables are flipped and you get treated for ten minutes like African Americans have for ages.

You think Lincoln, Eisenhower, Reagan, etc didn't have some cooky Right-Wing fanatical race baiters behind them??????? That's been going on for ages, but when its a black, left of center cleric, all of you guys get scared......its kind of funny to me. Like I said, 2008 is going to tell all of us a LOT about ourselves. It already is!!

If any of the above mentioned presidents had an adviser make those kinds of statements it would more likely that not have ended their hopes of becoming elected. If anything I would argue that his race was a large factor in those statements being reacted to as well as they were. If it were McCain it would have been the end of his chances my friend.

Fair points on the tax revenues, but the majority of these contracts are offshore and aren't benefitting many everyday Americans. That is our #1 problem today, the shrinking of a middle class. Greed has taken over and business owners, to make a few bucks, have sold out and left everyday Americans in the mud. The evaporation of a middle class has led to many a revolution. Its amazing to me how many people do not reference history.

You must look at the reasons for business moving overseas. We tax them to the point that those taxes are the number one expense for their company. Greed has very little to do with it. The cost of doing business in America is outrageous. The unions only make things worse. You have union people that do just enough to get by knowing the union will keep their job and negotiate a nice raise every now and then.

first off, this is about now, not ages ago. If McCain's preacher (and one of his closest friends) was making similar remarks from a white POV the outcry would be the same. Sharpton and JJ would screaming from the rooftops.

And acting like Lincoln was a savior is funny. History really glosses over some of his ideas about race relations.

And please tell us what 2008 will tell us about ourselves. Just so we're clear

as far as i'm concerned growing up i didn't really deal w/ any racial garbage. There wasn't any when I played ball. True you might have one idiot calling a black person a name, but turn right around and I've been called cracker and honkey a billion times. To be honest it doesn't bother me.

Personally I'm sick of hearing the NAACP get up and cry and see Jesse Jackson and company jump in and make everything racial. If you tell me Rev. Wright isn't racist then you've lost your mind.

No, Wright certainly has some racial baggage....but this is what "White America" glosses over.....Why would Wright feel this way?

Could it be because he grew up in a time where Whites treated Blacks like s***? Wright would have been 26 years old in 1968.....so he saw some bs.

Could it be because he fought for a country that wouldn't let him even take a leak in the same bathrooms as his white counterparts or watch a movie on the first floor of a theater?

But yet, white America doesn't understand why older black people have a distrust and disdain for the hypocritical elements of our society.

Don't get me wrong, Wright needs to look forward more than he looks back, but you can't judge a man until you walk a mile in his shoes. Everybody can't be as gracious as Nelson Mandela.

Maybe I am mistaken but didn't Wright have a fairly wealthy family in Hawaii?

Wright is a Philadelphia kid, I believe. Don't know of any family in Hawaii. Obviously, Obama is from there and his family wasn't rich either.

i'm not necessarily talking about the older black people. everytime i got called a honkey or cracker it was by a young black person. for example growing up there was a guy who i played ball with. came from a broken home, rough life, etc. me and him were pretty close, my family helped him out as much as possible. treated him like their own.

we both go off to college to play ball. we kept in touch etc. then a few yrs down the road i notice he's becoming a thug. gang signs, guns, etc. i saw him bout a year ago. we were at the gym playing ball. everything was cool. once some of his "boys" got there all hell broke loose. at first my childhood friend took up for me but the more we played the more he started siding with them. i didn't back down cause i'm not a punk, and sure a few fights about broke out. i heard it all. so finally after 5 or 6 games, i said peace out. kinda bad when you tried to help this guy as much as you can and he turns his back on you.

so you can't say it's the older generation who does it. it seems to be more of the younger generation if you ask me. in my subdivision i live in now i'd say it's 70/30 white. but there are no problems by either race. very friendly to everyone. i see it more of the trouble coming in the lower income areas from all races.

WHAT? No response from MG1968 on my last post? I'm "shocked"!

No wait, no I'm not.

since you've decided to make it personal, I won't bother with a response other than to say you make a fair point while at the same time you actually condone a politician not taking a stand regardless the personal ramifications.

If a politician thinks about how his or her vote will affect his or her position within the party before they think about their constituents, then who are they serving?

Oh, I saw your lil personal comment yesterday in that thread. Interesting you run there to post, yet say I'm the one making it personal today.

Atleast you admitted I made a good point. Most people won't do that on a message board.

didn't say it was a good point, I said it was a fair point and that I disagree with the practice if it is used to bolster one's position within the party.

Voting "present" is a tactic used by Illinois lawmakers. It has nothing to do with one's position within the party. It is used as a strategy as stated in this reference.

'Present' votes defended by Ill. lawmakers
