obama to raise taxes by $634 bil and to turn america into france

The administration acknowledges $634 billion is not enough to pay the full cost of health-care reform that Mr. Obama and many congressional Democrats envision; the final price tag is estimated at more than $1 trillion over 10 years. The senior official who previewed the health plan Wednesday said the budget proposal is intended as a down payment and said the administration would work with Congress to find the rest.

The budget will contain few details about how Mr. Obama wants to spend the money.

Hooray for transparency!

A couple of thoughts as I read a similar article in my USA Today this morning.
1. Its 50/50 reduction of spending and tax hike.
2. They are saving money for something that they can just "work out the details" of later....right, that's going to work.
3. This is absolutely and clearly turning the health care system into welfare. What makes anyone think that we will be able to manage a beast like health care any better than an already derelict welfare system.
4. This is incredibly dumb policy.

Notice too where the tax hits - on a mortgage deduction. Folks in these areas likely have huge mortgages. Reducing the mortgage exemption is going to hit pretty hard at someone trying to pay the monthly nut on an average house in some of these markets.

and we are assuming they aren't using extremely conservative estimates as to the cost (which i'm sure they are). FYI: "working out the details" means raising taxes more.

exactly. he's giving the middle finger to anyone living in LA or NYC. Apparently it's ok to be rich and not own a big home.

Here's the real bottom line. They acknowledge that this tax hike will not pay for this one program. Remember that in addition to this program we have to pay for his education initiatives, his green energy initiatives, the new spending enacted by the stimulus bill, the massive deficit and all the other programs that are coming.

If anyone believes that we are not going to see major tax hikes (not just rolling back Bushy) and/or massive ongoing deficits they just aren't paying attention.

The fact that this tax hike only pays for a small part of one program shows exactly where we are going. There is zero change of cutting spending to pay for this stuff.

To me, this is a slippery slope issue....I would prefer to stay as far away from the ledge of a complete welfare state as possible.

I'd love to hear comment from the other side.

The other side???? I am on America's side. What about you? I would like to be on your side, but you guys want to be so divisive about everything. Not necessarily you, but most of the right wing posters in the forum are just as I labeled.

And I am laughing at all the crying going on in this thread. Actually most of the threads contain nothing more than right wing fear rhetoric. You have to laugh at it.

I hope everyone that voted for this scum now realizes you have to be more than a great speaker to be a leader.

The fact you can call a guy "scum" who has been in the job a month says a lot about your stupid insecurities. And even more about all the hate and jealousy you have burning inside of you. And the fact you are probably scum yourself

I call it like I see it, and it seems that you labeled me without me even taking a shot at you. Yeah, definitely won't miss reading your liberal drivel.
