Maybe all the people buying guns during/after the election weren't so crazy after all...

The kicker for me is that the alleged justification is reducing violence in Mexico :eek:hmy: ""I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." Holder said "

Because, clearly, cutting the legal availability of assault rifles is going to exponentially decrease their use in illegal activities here in the US and especially in.... wait... Mexico?

I have never understood how any one could honestly think banning guns means any thing at all.

so you think the drug cartels are pissed about the 30 day waiting period and having to sit through firearms safety classes?

get a clue.

Hoplophobia is a genuine mental condition. Like any phobia to those not afflicted it just doesn't make sense. Trying to cite what drug dealers are doing in Mexico only brings to the fore the true irrationality involved in the thought process.

actually, after reading DC's post, I'm pretty sure we're on the same page.

I thought it was fairly clear I was sarcastic.

Typing that out even made me cringe because I know people somehow think like that.

What type of gun is that? Is that the military's next generation infantry rifle?

It was going to be until a pencil neck decided to make unreachable requirements for the gun during the final stages of development.

Made by Heckler * Koch.

Versatile beyond belief...... oh well...

On a side note, almost 2 million were made.

You ever fired one? I haven't... but a few of my buddies got their hands on one and found they were underpowered. Accurate, but underpowered.

Ghost Recon, or whatever game they were on doesn't count.

One of the guys on our SRT team has one. I think the gun is wonderful!

Do you know which variant? I know they had at least 3 with barrels of 9.5, 12.5 and 20". Those first two lengths are pretty short and would not be conducive to good velocity, although I think the 9.5 was really intended as a "personal defense" weapon and not specifcally meant to go out and "assault" anything.

There are many variants, sniper rifle, light machine gun model, etc.

I think as far as a combat rifle is concerned the 5.56NATO is far underpowered, and that was the consensus that was given when the rifle was given up for testing with the military.

If I had to get a 5.56, it would be the SIG556. Hands down. That rifle is smooth and sexy.

I've fired a PA 6.8 and it's the best mix of 5.56 and 7.62 there is.

We could argue that word for a long time and never get any where.

Why not bring back........

I think there's something to the 5.56 being underpowered but I also think some of that is due to the M4 being so common. That's only 14.5" of barrel and when you start small with your cartridge to begin with robbing velocity doesn't help matters.

Having said that my DPMS AP4 is 7.62 and I like it.

It is more a slight on the 5.56 round as a whole that leads to the underpowered comment.

The version that was pumped out was the 20" standard, if I recall. It wasn't a snub or carbine.
