Observations From The Opener.

Will you guys play like this against Florida if we wear Indianapolis jerseys? Throw us a bone here.

Does anyone know why Tabb didn't dress tonight? My take on Hopson is that he is a good offensive player, but needs to really improve on defense.

It was some sort of violation of team rules. I believe he missed a team meeting. I've also seen it worded as "academic discipline".

Negedu was sensational, and really surprised me with that 3-pointer. I didn't know he had that kind of touch. Also, his free throw shooting looked pretty good as well. He is fast, has a quick first step and an explosive jump. I see him making some big plays for us this year. Really exciting.

Thanks Hat. I'm excited to see Emmanuel, and I'm crossing my fingers to see West sometime this bball season. We really need him come January.

i think he's definitely going to be a beast. i can tell that he's going to be one of the most aggressive players we have on the court. got a roughnes about him that i think is definitely going to help us a lot down the stretch.

I think the best play of the night was when Negedu got his own rebound like twice and eventually scored on a lay-up and Indy pushed the ball up really fast with a cross court pass and Negedu raced to the other end of the court (was the furthest player away since he was under the basket) and blocked an easy 2.

There is a reason Cal went after Negedu so hard for Memphis, he is that good.

I saw that play and was amazed. Exactly as you said. I was so fired up seeing him do that. He will definitely bring the crowd to its feet at TBA.

1. I was surprised at how tall Maze seemed. It could have just been his long shorts, but he looked like he was 6'3" ish. (i realize he's not that tall)

2. Hopson will not be a 1 and done. Nothing against the way he played, he's just TOO skinny. He's the skinniest, most immature body on our squad.

3. Negadu seemed like he knew what he was doing. He's a big, strong guy.

4. Tyler Smith is clearly the best player and "go to guy."

5. I think we should shoot better from the stripe this year. Hopefully that will help us win close games (which I anticipate we'll have a lot of).

6. I think TN will have a difficult time repeating last season's success. They didn't play very well defensively last night, and we're still finding our way in terms of role players.

we were playing a very small team

Howell said in the pregame show that he sees EN red shirting this year. I think he will be the spark plug off the bench. I thought his downside was his was his offensive ability and would probably play the 5. He hit a nice 3 pointer and I think he went 4 for 5.

Exactly, that is why BW dominated the boards. I can't wait to see how he does against a good big man. We will in the tourney in a couple weeks.

I would have thought Chism would have dominated against such a small line up. I felt that he should have done better against the competition he was facing.

I think our projected success is less than last year but with potential to be better, again depending on PG play

if the PG position doesn't come together, it'll be sweet 16 at most.

That might be true, but no doubt this team has a different makeup than previous years. We are tall. And we are bouncy. And we are stronger.

The way I see it, other than natural fast-break opportunities, we are probably more of a halfcourt team, setting up good matchups in the post or on the wing for dribble drive penetration. So, we don't necessarily need a PG in the mold of Chris Paul, someone who can create a fast break where there's not one, or someone who can beat his man off the dribble to create opportunities for others. We need a steady hand who can bring the ball upcourt, get the offense going and set up easier baskets at the rim or mid-range jumpers.

From what I hear of Daniel West, he would be a nice complement to Maze and give this team what it needs at the PG position.

What I'd pay to have CJ Watson running the point right now.
