My observations from the game...

- for my 1st time at Neyland it was an incredible place to visitglad you enjoyed your visit
- I was surprised at how late fans showed up after kickoffIt was a very early game
- the bands traditional performance bringing the team onto the field was awesome
- the '3rd down for what' chant is so cool
- parking was so weird. $30 one place & $60 right next door
- wearing my Red Wolves shirt was very eye-catching to the flood of fans in orange
- everyone was very courteous & welcoming
- the video screen cannot be seen at all from where I was sitting
- the arrogance of fans is amusing to meevery teams has them...just visit The Den.[/B
- when we(ASU) scored or made a great play, how easily your fans turn on the players/team until a good play happens "& totally redeems yourself"
- your kicker needs workHe's injured.
- I was very let down with the turn out of ASU fans Of course you were...you lost.
- I am not a fan of having your coaches name/pic on t-shirts. I saw a lot of those at the game. To me that is praising a person & not the team. You don't get it.
- finally I think that you(fans) were caught off guard with our level of talent. You pulled away late in the game, but it was closer than the score indicated. When time became a factor, we had to take risky moves to keep the ball & when they failed, you capitalized on it.
I think that you guys will hover around the middle in conference play, but not go bowling this year.

A lot of uninformed fans were surprised at the amount of talent you team possesses. Out team, wasn't. you can't keep young men from looking ahead to a huge game the following weekend. It just happens. But I'm not saying that had a huge impact on the game. It was not really closer then the score indicated. Saying that is just a comfort thing. Of course we capitalized on some of the stupid a$$ed play calling your coach called. He's got some stones...but that's all. That's what some inferior teams rely on and it works well when the opposing team is young and inexperienced. You had to take risky moves b/c you were losing. Don't play it like that's why you lost and that you would have won if you had another quarter.

1. Children should not be brought to hot humid games unless seats are out of sun.
2. Fans should not be able to exit and return to seats no more than once a half causing rude disruptions for fellow Vol fans.
3. Tennessee clearly has no answer for all the parking. I should have ridden the shuttle from my hotel (stupid).
4. All the souvenir cups should be uniform. I mean who would rather have a picture of Smokey and advertisers as opposed to this year’s schedule on their cup.
5. Tennessee has a problem with punting the ball. Their punter drilled the ball constantly even when it was not a smooth sparrow. It looked like a dead duck floating through the air and still went far.
6. Elderly people trying to walk to the game I feel sorry for. It’s too far. What about a free trolley or something?
7. Parking attendants that lie how far it is to stadium should go to jail.
8. I hate private parking lots and permit parking lots.
9. I also wonder which of these private lots at the university my tax dollars are sponsoring.
10. Back to the game, not sure why Hurd was not allowed to keep pounding the rock. What I saw was him coming into his own then voice/brain of reason exited the premises.
11. Tennessee should have started running more time off the clock a lot earlier in the game. That team was explosive and one fumble/pick/missed tackle they would have been right back in it.
12. I love call in shows after the game, no holding back.

You gave 3 live observations and the rest of your thread was complaining about parking lots, parking attendants and how far it was from parking to the stadium and being annoyed that people climbed across in front of you a bunch during the game.

I usually don't give people crap on here, but seriously dude you went to a ball game that kicked off in the middle of the day in the dog days of summer with 100,000 other people. Of course there's going to be parking issues and you're going to have to walk pretty far unless you get there early as crap or pay for a pass. Of course there's going to be tons of people drinking and climbing across your lap.

I too noticed the punt team seemed to let them get close to blocks several times and our punter continued to boom it even when he was rushed and had defenders flying at him.

I agree it started looking like Hurd was finding a rhythm and groove and the line was getting a push for him. Then the let off the run some. Would've liked to seen them keep pounding it and give Hurd those key early season touches and the opportunity to finally bust one.

Best of luck this season & thanks for the experience from a Red Wolves fan!!!

I do not think you watched the game...31-12 in the middle of the 3rd qtr and started working on the running game and didnt throw a pass in the 4th qtr does not constitute pulling away late...UT was in total control from the middle of the 2nd qtr... you tacked on a 4th qtr TD to get within 2TD's,then you started taking risks and going for it on 4th down, and we added a late FG... you are delusional if you thought there was any chance of ARKY ST winning that game... we tried to run out the clock and practiced running the ball,no passes at all...we built a 31-12 lead throwing the ball, but good luck the rest of the way...

Listen, on a day with insane humidity, I will forgive folks for needing more than 1 water per game. Gotta stay hydrated.

On the other hand, people who leave or return to seats during a play need to be taught.

ASU fan getting on here acting as if the game was close and knows what a bowl team looks like is laughable. Buddy, your team lost the lead in the first quarter and never came close to leading after that. Quit acting like your team was close to winning. And to the OP, next time stay home and let people who actually enjoy the Gameday atmosphere go to the game

My own observations, from my first game at Neyland since I was a student quite a while ago. I brought my wife with me, and it was her first game ever at Neyland.

1) When the hell did all these renovations take place? We were walking around campus, and I'm pointing to landmarks and going, "Oh, this wasn't there. This was over here. And for this...try to imagine this looking like something completely different. You can imagine that, right? RIGHT? Please tell me I'm not insane."

2) Holy crap, the heat and humidity was suffocating. I'm not going to fault people for heading out a bit early. I barely sweat at all, but it was actually dripping off me. Soaked completely through a t-shirt and jersey.

3) From spending a couple days in and around the city, I see the requirements to get a driver's license in Tennessee are no stiffer than they ever were.:p

Now, onto the football observations:

It's easy to forget that this is an extremely young team, and a lot of the issues that we see are something that they'll grow out of in the near future. In the meantime, the growing pains are maddening.

Yeah, there were issues on kick and punt returns. There were issues defensively with limiting Knighten. It's all part of the same core issue: failure to keep outside contain. Take a young kid and get him bearing down on Knighten (or McKissic in the return game), and they'll get a bit aggressive and forget a core assignment. Next thing you know, they're too far inside and there's a big lane on the edge. It didn't happen two or three times, it happened 15 or 20 times in all facets of the game. I was behind an end zone and stopped keeping count, but it wasn't better at the end of the game either.

One weird thing that stood out offensively was that Hurd has tremendous skills but runs really high. A handful of times it looked like he focused on getting lower, but it looked unnatural and undoubtedly felt the same way. There aren't too many huge running backs to really kind of emulate, and he doesn't have the sort of fluidity that Eddie George (a recent big back) was able to be effective with. He'll find a way.

Give it time. If I were on the sidelines in a polo shirt, I'd still be looking ahead to next season and making sure these guys right now don't get too far over their heads. It's tough to see a bunch of freshmen and sophomores going through growing pains, but it'll get better soon. Trust me. In the meantime, don't panic, and have faith.
