Tennessee will honor two-time unanimous first-team All-American Eric Berry with his National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute when the Vols host Texas A&M on Oct. 14. Berry and the 2023 class will be officially inducted during the 65th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5 in Las Vegas.

Berry earned unanimous first team All-America honors in 2008, and he repeated the accolade in 2009. He is the only player in school history to achieve that feat twice. In 2009, he became the first player in school history to claim the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back.

My oldest son had this jersey made for me for Mother's Day in 2013. He had my name put on the back. I just can't tell you know special that was to me.

During the 40 years between my visits to Neyland, I witnessed the Vols play in a lot of other stadiums. Accordingly, my jersey is white. Tin Man is across the shoulders. Number 79 is for the year that I finally received a degree from Tennessee.

The man, the legend.

I happened to see something about Harrison Smith the other day and thought how, if we could have kept him in Knoxville, he and EB would have been one of if not the best safety tandem in college football history. Smith was always ND bound though I guess.
