I understand that Dems getting full control, including the presidency, was a problem, but it was equally problematic when the Reps had full control for the preceding six years.

Agreed. The executive and legislative branches need to be split between the two parties. One-party control over both of these branches, no matter which party it is, results in radical agendas. Gridlock is good.

The reason why incremental government policy change was such a good thing from 1900 to 1980 was that the world also changed slowly -- economically, militarily, technologically.

But with the beyond-exponential explosion in the complexity of the world, combined with the consequent potential for true disaster in fairly short order, the government is increasingly too slow and antiquated in its approach to these issues.

Absurd. Government simply has limited applications in which it can be effective because of its political and bureaucratic nature. Has nothig at all to do with the party affiliations of those inhabiting the branches.
