Just a question I was wondering.

It seems that the USC hire has sparked some debate with regards to Tennessee's current and past coaches.

I'm just waiting to see how long it takes before someone votes for one of the Three Stooges in this poll. A vote for Houston, Green, or Peterson should be a one way ticket to a padded room.

"Much better coach, respectable recruiter. Has a mentality to win big games."

Like at #1 Memphis and 6 in a row over UF? I was at UT during the KO era (even attended his hiring presser). That style of basketball went out about the time they took the bottoms out of the peach baskets. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

that's funny, the teams that keep winning somehow play great defense or have such an enormous offensive advantage it can't be overcome. At a joint like UT, number 2 isn't an option, but maybe you already knew that.

I'll agree with the Respectable Recruiter.
Better coach.....at defense. His overall record and record at each individual school does not indicate he's a good overall coach.
Big Games? Not trying to argue, but can you give me any examples?

I'm talking about style of play moreso than big games.

If KO were a political animal like many in his profession, he would have plenty to show for it.

Offensively, he lacked talent at UT, but his squad never remotely resembled the disorganized mess we see on the offensive end these days.

Jerry Green- he took us to 4 straight tourney appearances and we were coming out of some of our darkest years in bball. He made me care about UT bball again

Ask Rick Pitino who he more enjoyed playing in the 'AAs, KO or Pearl.

He had 4 years at UT. He could have brought in some talent of his own. His final record was same as his first year record. Also, His overall coaching at each school is essentially the same. No big difference. I still don't see it.

However - I completely agree with the disorganized mess on the offensive end. That has to change.

after the Houston disaster, I'm not sure who could have quickly turned around recruiting. It really is hard for me to put into words exactly what WH did to our basketball program.

Not making excuses, but KO had it on the right track and had a much tougher row to hoe than anyone in the history of our program. Didn't help that he had no support from the athletic director's office.

I'll take KO. Don't take that as an indictment against Pearl. I'm appreciative of Tennessee becoming relevant again, but I think a lot of reasonably competent coaches could have come into a place like Tennessee and done that. KO would have done that, had he stayed longer. He inherited far worse than Pearl and left the program in good position.

I guess we will get to settle the debate somewhat over the next couple of years since O'Neill and Pearl will be squaring off!

You are clueless.
I've come to realize the basketball program now is pretty much where the football program was in about 2003. People who have the first clue what's going on see the impending train wreck. The orange overall crowd, on the other hand, is going to continue to tell us what a Godsend the current head coach is to UT. It'll play out the same. Always does.

Tennessee has no business losing to USC this coming year.

A fair metric would be to see how USC does over the next 3 or 4 years. They are pretty depleted now.

It Tennessee loses to Southern Cal this year, it'll be an indication that UT is flat awful. SC will be lucky to win 10 games.
