Some say the only championship we won was in 1998. It all depends. UT claims 6. One of those we probably didn't rightfull deserve, but I think there is another season that we finished undefeated and unscored upon, but were not recognized. Who knows? Six national championships sounds good.

If people are going to be nit-picky, UT has only won 1 NC. 1998 was the first year the NC was won matching #1 vs. #2. You could say that all the others, inlcuding all Bama's titles were 'voted on', not won. I don't like the BCS at all, but we can say we won the first real National Championship.

So there are no National Champions in football before 1998?

I don't really think that argument passes the laugh test.

National champions, yes. Voted on by the coaches or press, hence the split national titles, titles Bama claims even thought they lose their bowl game, etc. Please pay attention.

Recognized National Championships by Team

Interesting..should have clicked the link. I've used this site quite a bit and the above link was the one I remembered. This link credits UT with 4 and Bama with 11. A buddy of mine, a big Bama fan and I have agreed to use these numbers as true NCs.

College football database just says whatever they want.

Even Notre Dame doesn't take credit for all the championships given to them by cfbdw.

I am paying attention. Please make an argument that has some logic to it. If you were named the national champion under the system that awarded the national championship, you won the national championship.

All NCAA football national championships were awarded on by the coaches or the press until 1998, and even today, the press still votes the national champion in the AP.

The question regarding some of Bama's national championships relates to the authority that the various ranking systems have in awarding the NC. There are several posts on this topic live on this forum addressing this question in-dept. But maybe you weren't paying attention.
