Offensively, the Vols have rushed for 200 more yards than this time a year ago. Surprisingly, they are averaging just seven points a game less than a year ago despite losing three playmakers to the NFL who have all scored this season for their respective teams.

Pretty amazing if true.

Gary Danielson said that you have to throw out those stats against inferior opponents.

How many has the d scored?

I'll say this the D is bailing water and if the offense would quit siphoning it back into the boat we'd be ok.

That was my first thought too. I'm assuming he's only counting points scored by the offense, but I didn't do the math.

7pts less a game on average is a huge difference.

Not a positive type stat if hubbs was attempting to be optimistic

It is huge, but I would have guessed more, all things considered.

Not only that, but if we could just sustain three or four drives that were four or five mins long that'll give our defense 15-20 mins off the field. The only way for us to beat GA, Bama, etc is to sway the TOP toward our favor in a 35min-25min split.

If we wait long enough I bet someone on VN will. I would think it does include Defensive scores. Which would be a stat in and of itself worth looking at. They've scored probably 20% of our points.

It's taking into account our defensive scores.

Last yr we averaged 37pts a game and this year right at 31.

A bunch of those 31 are defensive scores

It's less impressive than I initially thought, If it includes defense. I need to see how many points our defense has scored.

We've scored a total of 159 points in 5 games. 21 points of which were scored on D. That's 13% of our scoring and not accounting for all the short yardage situations which have been numerous.

61% of those total points came against the 1st 2. 80% comes from the 3 OOC which is 60% of the total games played.

In the 1st game 0 points off of D but they setup an easy score.

In the second game 14 of 52 pts or 26% was scored on D not counting the ones where they were close to the goal line.

OR was 0 points for the D.

FL was 7 points for 41% of our scoring.

USA was 0 but an INT ended the game.

Raise your hand if you thought our secondary world be bailing this much water for our team this year....I know I won't.

Think back to all those short yardage situations set up by the D. If it weren't for this defense we'd be whining way more than we already are.

The defense scored 14 points against Wky and 7 points against Florida by my count.

We have scored 159 total points this year, 31.8 points per game.Take out the defensive scores, we have put up 138 offensive points. So 27.6 points a game either through TDs or FGs.

Through the first 5 games last year, we scored 197 points for 39.4 points a game. There was 1 defensive score, which makes it 190 points and 38 points a game.

So by my count, 38 last year and 27.6 this year. I'm counting extra points and everything.

Honestly those numbers would be worth someone tweeting or doing a quick blurb about. It's a positive in a pretty gloomy season.

It is not that much when you consider what Hunter, Patterson and Bray accounted for last season.

This doesn't even account for all the short yardage plays the D has offered up the offense where a run later we were in the endzone.

That sounds more like it. I wonder if someone could figure out what percentage of those points were accounted for by Bray, Patterson and Hunter.

It would be interesting and likely very telling to know the average yards per drive of last year to this year. I bet that's the most telling stat.
