Offense vs Defense Who's to blame?

I was at game this past weekend. Joe had open receivers and never saw them. He just does not process the game fast enough.

To your point about receivers I don’t know who it is whether it’s him or receivers but he certainly doesn’t not see field and anticipate/be in sync with his receivers the way HH did.

Offense most likely. They scored 17 points the last two games. Defense hasn’t been too bad. The way that Heupel’s system is setup is for the defense to get a few stops and the offense capitalizes and runs away with it. Worked like a charm last year, this year, not so much.

Didn’t read anything posted above.

Offense is Definitely the problem. No 2nd Half points in several games. Lack of points period. Way too many 3 & outs-kills a defense.

If you gonna go fast, then you need to score and score often.

Defense is slowly improving each year (should have a strong front 7 next year). this team was always destined to be average due to our starting quarterback. Regression of WR play was disappointing. Thornton was a bust, Keyton regressed and Bru got hurt

I thought this put the year into focus and cleared some things up for me.

If you look at year 1 through year 3 our offense has done this:

2021 - 511 points (39.3 avg) and 475 yards per game
2022 - 599 points (46.1 avg) and 525 yards per game
2023 - 330 point (30.0 avg) and 438 yards per game with 2 games remaining

Suppose UT scores their season average over the last 2 games they would end up at 390 points. That's over TWO HUNDRED fewer points scored vs last year and over 120 fewer than year 1. And if you add the 16 points per game difference to this year's games, we would have beaten Florida and Bama again. If you didn't understand the difference between Milton and Hooker before, boy I hope you do now.

Meanwhile on the defensive side...

We have given up
2021 - 378 points (29.1 avg) and 404 yards per game
2022 - 296 points (22.8 avg) and 399 yards per game
2023 - 240 points (21.8 avg) and 352 yards per game with 2 games remaining

Again if we give up our season average over the last 2 games we will end the year at 284 points.

So our defense looks like it will improve every year so far.

Regardless of what you think of our defensive staff, it's pretty dang clear to me who's fault this disaster of a year is. It's the guy calling the offense and the guy playing QB.
Your stats don’t tell the whole story. When and what games did the defense struggle and which ones did the offense struggle. I’m just saying there’s issues on both sides of the ball. It’s only year three! No one is else is beating Georgia either. Bama is Really good. No defense in that game in the second half. Missouri is having a special year like we had last year. Florida was all around bad both sides of the ball. Patience is great virtue

Uh oh. The “low football IQ fans “are going to come after you. For some reason, they love them some Joe
It’s not all on Joe. Yes, Hooker was a much better QB.. it’s not even close, BUT….. Hooker also had Hyatt, Tillman and McCoy to throw to… and Darnell Wright on the Oline.
Hooker’s numbers would undoubtedly be lower under the the circumstances Milton has had. The wr corp is a freaking shadow of what it was last year and there have been a ton of injuries on the Oline.

Defense got the **** kicked out of them against Florida and Mizzou. That is all I have to say about that.

Defense had some really bad halves of football at UF and Bama... Whole team was trash at Missouri. UGA is just a bunch of sterioded up goons so i'm not counting that one.

The defensive stats have improved but a polished turd is still a turd! No doubt the offensive side of the ball has been the biggest disappointment this year. I really wanted to believe in Milton and hoped he’d do well but he just don’t have “IT”

Are there any comparison stats for the defense in terms of allowing the other team to convert 3rd and 4th downs? That has been our downfall this year.

And in the games that we lost, defense looked terrible.

The offense needs a QB with the capability of running the offense. Better tackle play is also must. We also don't have anything at wide-out. Surprising we did what we did considering the dropoff in talent from last year.
The defense backfield needs actual SEC level players at all 5 spots. We aren't good enough back there to compete and win in this league currently. Front seven just needs to keep adding layers of SEC talent. We won't trick our way to the top. We need to be good enough to win. Just like the teams who've won this league in the recent past.
