Offensive Line

YES!!!!!! That is exactly what I've been saying. Florida's scheme was a little better than GA's, but some of that is because we played right into their hands by lining up in the I-formation and manning up on them with extra defenders.

Our scheme against GA, especially with the TEs, was totally different. We didn't allow them to come downhill on us like FL did because we spread them out a little more and didn't try to bang our heads against the wall.

Maybe our line played better. Fine. But I think we put them in better positions to succeed than we did against FL. We made GA play us "fair", if that makes sense.
yep...which tells me that this offensive coaching staff is at least capable of making adjustments and learning...we are better now than we were in week three...

Agreed. I also wouldn't downplay what Matt Luke has contributed with the TE position and getting Cottam more involved. I don't know it, but I suspect he has been helping Cut a lot in that area. Cutty respects that young coach.

The FL/GA comparison also shows how much difference coaching makes with given talent. It is paramount, IMO. The same players scored 51 points.

gotta give Atkins some credit too with the offensive line...they played the best game i've seen in a really long time...Sears and Young handled Moses and Johnson....something i never thought would have happened...the coaches on the offensive side of the ball have proven their worth so far.

and as bad as the D played in the 1st half and easy as UGA was able to run the ball, Chavis made some adjustments on the pressure package for Joe T, and the pursuit and pressure was much better in the 2nd half...as evidenced by the turnovers...all in all.

the only coaching debacle that still is a pain, is special teams..the coverage is so bad.

Yes, Adkins deserves credit for the improvement there. I still think the scheme was at least as responsible for it. We didn't put them in tough confusing positions like FL. Also, they apparently have done a good job getting McNeil ready; so I give that young man credit as well.

Props to the OL for playing hard and hurt. Bravo.

One thing I was glad to see Saturday night was that when we got the lead, we didn't revert back to playing "Johnny Ball" to try and run out the clock. We just put the pedal down and blew them out.

Yeah, I was very happy to see Ainge still throwing ball late in the game. I kept saying to people around me "it's time for conservative ball" but it never happened. I was happy to be wrong.

The OL is playing better. IMO a significant part of UT's success running the ball came from UGA's attempt to keep Meach and Swain in double coverage while also having to keep someone on the thrid WR (Smith for most of the night). Basically, on many of UT's successful running plays UGA played 5 DBs against 3 WRs where you'd expect to see the usual 4 DBs (2 corners and 2 safeties). The UGA coverage completely negated the man advantage that defenses usually get and it obviously hurt them in the pass rush. This was especially true when the Vols stretched the field with 4 WRs or moved the TE out a little thereby forcing the Dawgs to pull another LB into pass coverage.

If I were an opposing coach I'd probably look at the fact that Meach got his catches anyway and shutting down Swain really only resulted in Smith having a big day so you might as well go ahead and play standard man-to-man or three deep zone coverage and stack the line against the run with your LBs in an attempt to make the Vols one dimensional like UF did. This would at least increase the likelihood of turnovers (ints. anyway).

Hopefully, no one beats Cut and UT puts 50+ on everyone else this year. Also, I'd really like to see the starters play 4 quarters against Vandy if UT has a chance to score 100 points on the Dores.

I agree 100%. That is exactly what happened.

Lotta good ideas and points made here. But personally I feel it was my calling out thread on coach Adkins and he read it:whistling:

That goes without saying. Clearly your personal challenge was a big factor.
