I really think that the offensive line is not only our best unit but is the single unit that can control a game and the clock. Just feeling really good about our chances in most any game this season simply because of our line. I see that line winning us a game or two we aren't supposed to... Just by dominating and being able to pound the football. Just my two cents. What say you Volnation?

If this o-line can line up and pound it out on the ground, we may steal one or two. Of course the backs have to make the most out of every carry.

I feel like our OL "grew up" learning to pass block. I'm still unsure if they can be road graders...no aptitude shown for that so far IMO.

As much hype as they have gotten, I completely agree with your post.

OL is the #1 position Vegas looks at when setting the line. Minimize big plays and manage the game we go 7-5 with a bowl victory=extremely successful season.

Its exactly what the coaches been preaching...Tennessee goes as the O-Line and Big Dan, if they could find that switch on him to become a beast or play nasty there would not be 1 person stop him.....

This OL cannot be an "if" if this team plans to win ball games! It has to carry this team and keep our defense rested. The "D" doesn't have the depth to keep us in games this year, like they did in our days of glory. The OL MUST contol the game from the word go to be successful.

I felt great about the dl before all this crap

Is there new crap I don't know about because the temporary loss of two DE's crap really isn't the Chikn Lil event most are making it out to be?

I absolutely hate it for Vereen. He needs every rep he can get. OTOH, his own personal hardwork and EE status really help with that. He should be back by the 2-5 game depending on his rate of healing. Judging by how disciplined and hardworking he has been... he will make it back in less time that the avg player would.

J Smith is a senior who has played since he was a Fr. He will be back by the 2nd or 3rd game. While you don't want any player to miss preseason reps, he's a guy who can afford it more than most.

In the meantime, someone will get reps that they would not have gotten. They will improve more than they would have otherwise.

Yes. It stinks that those guys won't develop further. But it could help create some depth at the position that would not have been there. Someone gets those reps. On this DL, someone with significant talent will get those reps... and every rep counts toward making the team better.

I hope this OL is good. Didnt we have like the #1 OL in the country in 2005?......

The publicity surrounding our vaunted O-line will be a motivating factor for defenses ready to challenge them.
Tighten those chin straps and let the slobber knocking commence .

We haven't been able to run the ball effectively in years; either due to poor backs or poor OL play or more probably both.

Neal and Lane are it so we need to open holes for them and become a run dominant team that can throw as well which is a 180 degree switch from prior years under Dooley. I am hoping the style of offense that Jones' runs will help keep the opposing team's D on their heels, not knowing what is coming next, and that should help get holes or lanes to run in with our backs.

i agree if they do their job we could have a really surprising yr.....no defense can take a 3 hr azz-whooping and make enough plays to win

Anyone that isn't simply regurgitating articles or hearsay about how perfect our O-line is agrees with you. They did ok last year in this regard, but that's just it - OK. I hope they can block on the move and get to the second level on some defenders. If they can do that; Rajion is fast enough to make people eat his dust.

I'll be sold on this offensive line when I see sustained drives on Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and other SEC teams running the football. Our OL has to prove it's self by dominating SEC teams up front, something I've yet to see. We will know soon enough what this line is made of.

I seem to remember a long drive against UGA ending in a Rajon Neal run for a TD that was all running the football. Same against Miss St I believe. I think we can run the football we just didn't last year. I don't think Chaney was a very good play caller.

Yes , we had a couple of drives last year and never really comitted to the run, but we also had very bad short yardage gains against good defenses. The OL received praise for pass blocking and low number of sacks with a QB that had a quick release and got rid of the football.
