Don’t get caught up counting positions. It’s matchups. UGA will always have three big guys—a NT, a DT, and a DE. There will be an oversized LB on the line—you could call him a DE or a LB, but UGA calls him a LB. Then one true ILB and one off-ball LB. And then you’ll have two CBs and two safeties. That leaves one player left, and it will usually be either a safety type or a CB type, but it can also be a safety/LB hybrid or a second ILB.You probably need to hope that Nico is healthy then. The gray beard back up can probably make those throws better.
However that's not UT's game. UT's TEs are athletic enough to flex so 12 personnel becomes 11 or 4 wide. Heupel's approach is actually pretty simple. He gives the D the choice between cheating their nickel or 3rd LB to help with the run or cheat out to help the pass. UGA's past success has been because the secondary across the board was good enough to play pass and still get inside for run support. That and your DL whipped UT's OL.
Honestly... it probably comes down to that again.
BTW, I really wouldn't go 3-3-5 against what UT does. They'll put 4 guys outside the numbers leaving you thin in the middle or exposed on the outside. You probably need 4 big fellas to stuff UT's run without the extra help.
Watch every minute. It’s very true. Are you going to use Kent state as an argument? Heupel has very much built a lead and then leaded on his defense and handed the ball off. For the record I’m happy with any W, but it’s very much been conservative calling. This just simply isn’t true. Do you watch the games or just read the box score?
Agree. I’m not hopeful, though, that Heup adopts that approach. For some reason he doesn’t lean heavily, if at all, on slants, crossing routes and middle of the field stuff. It’s maddening as these are tough to defend and can really loosen up a defense.Ole Miss absolutely torched Georgia with slants and crosses. We need to work the middle of the field. Constantly throwing down the sidelines isn't going to beat them.
Watch the Bama game again. Shot play after shot play, particularly in the first half. Wide open receivers. The only two games where we really went conservative imo, were Oklahoma and Arkansas.Watch every minute. It’s very true. Are you going to use Kent state as an argument? As another mentioned, maybe lack of execution has made it look a bit more conservative in my eyes. We’re definitely gonna need to be aggressive tomorrow and hopefully take the crowd out early.Watch the Bama game again. Shot play after shot play, particularly in the first half. Wide open receivers. I think you are right about formations. I'm neither optimistic or pessimistic. The Vols have a better athlete to athlete match up than they've had in many years this time. UGA isn't as good on D as they were a couple of years ago. UT is marginally better on the OL and probably a tad worse or thinner everywhere else on O. UT's D vs UGA's O is a near complete flip. UGA has been terrible running the ball. UT's D is miles ahead of two years ago.Kirby plays his Nickel and OLB just outside the tackles vs our offense. He can do this because of their athleticism. They are quick enough to cover the screen and help in run support. Josh Heupel has yet to get around this formation. Some of you guys have alot of faith in our team pulling out the W tomorrow. Im not feeling as optimistic. The only game i have felt optimistic about was the Arkansas game. So take that how you guys want . We have to match their aggression and physicality for 4 quarters. We all know this UGA team is going to be pissed off and ready to play. We should be pissed off to because noone thinks we can win outside this fanbase.
Exactly correct and what boggles the mind is that we try to run the ball behind the guards (with pulling guard and center) instead of running outside guard leverage or behind tackle on the side with the heavy LB (Light DL).Don’t get caught up counting positions. By listing on the depth chart, Carter and Aguero would make a 3-3-5. But the formation plays more like a true 3-4. Those two see the field because they are comfortable playing heads up on a TE in space. G
I’d expect UGA to be -1 or -2 in the box most plays.
Go back and watch the Ole Piss game last week.Kirby is going to bring the heat on the QB no matter who’s back there, I’m hoping Hype dials up the TE’s, quick slants and skinny post options on Saturday. Then a dose of D Samp since they will plan on stuffing the block early. What are your thoughts on some other options to move the ball and score?
