I began reading the Dune series today. Should be a fun ride . . .

"Fear is the mind-killer."

The first book is fantastic.

I read the first 3 back in college. I've jumped back in recently and am finishing the fourth "God Emperor of Dune".

The overall concept of the spice, the various power groups along with the philosophy of government and religion make the series great. Also explains why it's tough to reduce to film. The David Lynch version is fun but I can't imagine following it if I hadn't read the books.

Agree that the first book is just great. It's been years and I'm thinking of reading it again. I ended up reading all the original books.

Has anyone read any of the books by Herbert's son? There's a couple prequel trilogies but the ones I'm really thinking about picking up are the Heroes of Dune books.

Currently tackling Quantum Enigma by Bruce Rosenblum,The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot, The GOD Theory by Bernard Haisch and Biocentrism by Robert Lanca.

Taken as a whole absolutely mind blowing. Stunning new ways to perceive the universe. I highly recommend them for those who beleive the standard dogma (all 4 definitions).

I'm reading 3 books at the moment-
The Travelers Gift by Andy Stanley
The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning
Death in the Silent places by Peter Hathaway Capstick.

"Generation iY" by Dr. Tim Elmore. Discusses the cultural and societal shift and challenges posed by the current generation of our Nation's youth. Great so far.

Picked up some classics on Amazon

Germania - Tacitus
The Gallic War - Julius Caesar
Meditations - Marcus Aurelius
Candide - Voltaire

Still struggling through "The Golem and The Jinni." Voted the 2nd best fiction of 2013 on several websites behind Gaiman's " The Ocean at the End of the Lane"... It's slow, really slow. It's started really quick, though.

A few science books are up after this.

Candide is absolutely hilarious!
Anyways, I just finished Warren Buffetts essays: Lessons for Corporate America. I just bought Zig Zigglers secrets of closing the sale.

Read a short story last night by Chris Dietzel called "What Had Been and Wasn't Anymore." Really good. Wish it'd been longer. I suggest it to everyone and it's available free online or in the B&N Nook store.

I spent a good couple of hours at the bookstore on Saturday night. I don't get over there much because it's almost the furthest distance from my house by bike of any place in town (16 mile ride). I just so happened to have a friend that was headed there and he invited me to tag along. Anyways, I found a bunch of new books that I want to read.

Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy #1) - kind of along the lines of The Hunger Games Trilogy.

A Once Crowded Sky - about former superheroes.

Those are just a few that I've decided to read next. There are several more on my Goodreads list.

Favorite book ever. Life-changing book if you take it to heart.

I hope you got the George Long translation; the others are crap.

Enjoy!

Started "The Witness Wore Red" this morning. Good read this far, about the 19th wife of the big polygamy raid a few years back.

Bump

Finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn yesterday... Anyone read her other books?

Started Griftopia today but haven't gotten really really far into it.

Picked up "Radical" and "Follow Me" today at LifeWay. Just started the former and it is very eye-opening and challenging already.

I aimed for 52 books this year, but after 4 months I started falling behind because of work/class. Averaging 50 pages a day wasn't too bad, but once I missed several days in a row, it's very hard for me to get back to my ideal pace. Anyways, I'm almost done with Matthew Berry's "Fantasy Life", then I'm going to finally finish "A Dance with Dragons"

:good!: :hi:

Just finished Act of War by Brad Thor. Guy writes some pretty realistic/scary books, but they are really good.

Pattern Recognition by William Gibson with his Zero History on deck. Fun albeit rather scary to go inhabit the worlds he creates.
