Official Bubble Watch Thread

Vols have 1 sub 100 loss currently, and that's in conference...at least 2 top 50 wins...would give Vols hypothetical resume the slight nod.

Minnesota: 18-12(8-10) RPI:50 SOS:29 2 good wins, 2 bad losses

Tennessee: 17-13(10-8) RPI:47 SOS:15 2 good wins, 1 bad loss

They had 19 wins I am pretty sure

Tuesday's Games to Watch:

Alabama vs. South Carolina
Florida vs. Georgia
Wake Forest vs. Notre Dame
Tulsa vs. Memphis
Rhode Island vs. UMASS
Georgetown vs.Villanova
Illinois vs. Northwestern
Syracuse vs. Clemson
Illinois State vs. Drake
Vanderbilt vs. Arkansas
Mississippi State vs. Auburn
Iowa State vs. Texas
Michigan State vs. Michigan
Texas Tech vs. TCU
Butler vs. Marquette

ETSU (18-5) is at 89 and Chattanooga at 93. It would definitely help UT's bubble chances if the currently 1st place Buccaneers won the Southern regular season and the league's NCAA bid in the tournament.

Shew, ETSU dropped like a rock tonight. Gotta love all that help beating them is doing, huh?

Matrix updated again last night, about 80% of the 98 brackets have been updated to include this past weekends games, so pretty accurate picture.

The Bracket Project's Bracket Matrix - 2017

Teams in less than 90/98 brackets are what I'm going to list...

TCU-86
Arkansas-82
Indiana-75
Clemson-74
Miami-70
California-67
Seton Hall-59
Illinois State-59
------------------------------
Syracuse-44
Wake Forest-43
Tennsssee-42
Georgia Tech-38
Michigan-28
Rhode Island-24
Texas Tech-13
Georgetown-7
Utah-6
Houston-5

This paints a pretty good picture of the current bubble situation IMO...1 thing I notice is in this group is 5 ACC teams, they're going to beat each other up, no way all 5 get in PLUS the 7 ahead of them.

Tennessee [13-10 (5-5), RPI: 35, SOS: 2] Buckle up, Vols fans: This is going to be a weird one. Teams with 10 losses by the first week of February tend not to merit much bubble consideration. The same is true of teams whose losses to top-150 teams (10) outnumber said wins (eight). But when those teams have UT's schedule -- which the RPI sees as No. 2, with a top-10 nonconference schedule rolled in -- things get slightly more complicated. Rick Barnes' team gave itself a massive boost the week by knocking off Kentucky and then Kansas State in Knoxville, before a recent stumble at Mississippi State. UT's hopes seem destined to go to the wire -- and, in the meantime, will fluctuate more on a game-by-game basis than almost anyone.

A word to the wise.
We're in a similar situation with Hubbs that we were in with Punter last season.
We finished 1-7 last year due to the injury to Punter.
This season with Hubbs having his knees drained before games, we've already seen the result with Miss St game.
I'm the ultimate pessimist, but fearing some Dejavu if Hubbs is unable to perform in the next 8 games.

Of course, I thought it was over when we lost Stella.

I agree with this. Def don't expect NCAA.

Tennessee was up 19 with the same Hubbs on the court, to me losing to State can't be blamed on his injury.

You'll be the same person calling out Barnes and saying how the team collapsed and fell apart, no shock.

You haven't been reading my post this year. I am sold on Barnes even said last week we are playing with house money. But that doesn't mean I don't expect us to go 5-3 here at the end. I won't be critical if we don't but I will be disappointed

Senior drill on suicide watch
I made the point that if ETSU won the conference and the tournament it would help the Vols. Unlike you, those who know little said it wouldn't. There are four good teams fighting for it and some good middle of the pack teams in the mold of Tennessee that can gum up the works for any of them.

You also spouted that conferences such as the Southern Conference are just as good as the Power 5 and deserve at-large bids. That's clearly not the case given so many of that conference are not even in the top 100 RPI.

We're 1-3 when Hubbs scores less than 10.
Barnes used Hubbs not being himself on either end of the floor as part of the excuse for the loss.
Schofiled has to pick it up.
We're 4-1 when he gets his game together.

That is such a joke. Here is exactly what I said. The top 5 teams in most the top mid major conferences are as good as middle of the pack power 5 teams. Perfect example Tennessee versus ETSU and Cnattanooga. For a team like Chatt with 29 wins last year to be replaced by a Big 10 team barely over 5OO which probably would have happened had they not won their tournament is obscene. It happens on a regular basis come tournament tme. The monopoly of refusing to schedule them rigs the RPI against all of them. So your statement is total spin.

I'll be,watching closely to see your reaction then. I'm predicting some passive-aggressive, ambiguous language that can't be entirely defined as "critical", but I'm pulling for ya Bruin.

Nope. This team and coaches have earned all negativity to be gone for the remainder of the year and hopefully longer.
