the only ones that really would affect are the ones that are definitely planning on being EE's. anyone else that's wondering about the future of the place they're currently committed, and is going to enroll in summer....should wait.
the early signing period provides an opportunity for some lower tier schools to lock up guys that have committable offers vs. waiting to see if they wind up in the plans for the big fish school. sign now at MD or wait and see if FSU has a spot? that's the choice a lot of kids will get to make.
the blue chips that have their choice, can end the madness and get it done.
schools have to be judicious in who they offer.
the monkey wrench this year is all the coaching changes. probably made some kids that were locks, pause for a second and take another look at the landscape before they sign this week.
a la Shrout, Griffith, JJ or Martinez, Horn, Gerald.
it goes both ways. and we're not the only ones going thru it.
I'm generally not a fan of early signing period, but may change in future once we're stable. I think it's going to press too many coaching shifts and potentially assistant shifts "in season", potentially disrupting a teams season.
However, if Saban is against it, I'm for it. I guess Bama, Clemson, etc could previously ignore someone and circle back late as openings are created, and this locks them out to have to go further down their lists.
