It looks like it's mashed down and those little black pellets are all you see. Maybe it's mud and muck from the terrible weather.

Anyhow the real grass looks better than the turf. Good work with rye grass I guess.

Maybe the fill will be removed soon, the grass cleaned and fluffed, and new fill put in?
