Official Game Thread: #9 Tennessee at #4 Michigan State (3:30 BTN)

Gainey has a bunch of positives, but he committed 6 turnovers yesterday. He’s going to have to be stronger with the ball because Rick abhors turnovers.
I agree with that, and I think we all expected some turnovers. But I think some of that changes when you add our two veteran guys back in the lineup. I view Gainey as a net positive considering the circumstances and it being the first game. However, I do see him as a viable option, not the go-to obviously.

I watched the game and was highly impressed by two Vols I'd never heard of. That's happened to me once before, about a half century ago, when two guys named Ernie Grunfeld and Bernard King came out of no where. (I recall that King scored something like 40 points.)

Ernie and Bernie didn’t really come out of no where. Both started as true freshmen and Bernard scored his career high in his first game. While Bernard was being recruited they had Bernard King Day at Stokely in 1973 when he was a high school senior.

I always said when Gainey and Knecht both committed to us through the transfer portal that we just got the next Ernie and Bernie. It’s true. Future Vol Hall of Famers.

Awesome game today; the only thing that worries me is the fact we beat Gonzaga last year in an exhibition game.
Awesome basketball game for this time of season. To beat Izzo with 2 starters out is quite impressive. Mr Connect and Gainey are great additions. Going to be a fun season.

Tom Isso thinks that Tennessee could be a Final Four participant this season.

Look, I saw a youtube video of two idiots named Dave Hooker and Caleb Calhoun that saw it differently. Compared it to a NBA all star game.
Damn, you can't make this up. Wasted 10 seconds of my life watching the video.

Bowden did it all and was a better shooter than JRich. Very underrated imho. He had some incredible in game dunks and big shots.
I really thought Bowden would be all-SEC his senior year and he had a decent season, but didn't take it to the next level. Still, a local kid that had a lot of talent, won a lot of games and gave his all for Tennessee. That dunk on the inbounds play against Vandy was nasty, top 10 dunk in Vols history, maybe

The discussion is about players not living up to VN poster’s expectations. It’s an analogy.

CRB must see something in JJJ. Over 4 years he’s started him in 80% of games he’s played in.
It's a defensive minded coach playing a good athletic defender. But of course this is one of the reason we keep falling into extended scoring droughts.

The high level defending was why UT didnt get blown out during games with the extended scoring droughts. There are plenty of offensive weapons this year to keep them from being so lengthy and frequent.
