Official Golden appreciation thread

It's been fun watching Golden mature along with a couple of other guys as well (or at least become more consistent). Tournament or not, these guys should be proud and be excited for next season.

For once, a thread I hope the players read!

Bahaha except for us bashing his baldness, Trae if your reading just look past those comments.

Agreed though, recent play had looked very promising for our hopes of a good season next year.

Kid is/has been playing on a gimped up ankle for some time. Tweaked it, most likely, again last night. Respect anybody doing that. Glad he is on our side.

why would you want to recruit the position? you have a guy in golden who has 2 years left and is proving to be a great PG for us. we have a guy coming in in '13 that we feel will be another great PG for us, more of a true PG. so why recruit someone for basically just the '12 season, in which trae is going to be the PG anyways?

Golden has had a great couple of games, but would probably be even better at the 2 spot. He really seems to be a guy that has started to flourish in it, but he's still playing out of position. Also, I'm not counting on anybody that can't play until 2013. I'd be afraid to put all of my eggs in that basket. I'm not saying we burn a scholly just to get a decent PG on campus. I'm saying we go after an ELITE point guard then let him develop behind the others for a year. It's hard to believe that could hurt us.

Golden has had a great season if you look at his numbers, he had a great start a bad stretch and has played great again lately. I have a hard time imagining him being that much better at the 2, he averages around 15, how many do you think he'll get at the 2? He was playing out of position, PG is his position now and he's getting much better I have no reason to think he won't be even better next year. Golden and the staff both know if golden is going to be an elite players it's going to be at the PG position not SG. CCM and members of his staff have stated repeatedly he is the PG of the future and that he can be an elite PG when he leaves Tennessee. If they feel that way about him what would make me doubt that?

Many think travon Landry will be an elite true PG here. Here's the other thing you wanna bring in an elite 2012 PG? Can you even go find one? Most of them are already signed with a school it's a bit late in the game to try and bring in an elite PG for the '12 class. We also have washpun on scholarship and a walk on who transferred in that was a PG at Clemson who many think is a all-sec caliber PG.

We have positions that need help much worse than the PG position.

Probably all true and tough to argue with.

People just forget trae is a sophomore still learning. Not many freshman PG could put up the numbers he's putting up, his play is very underrated IMO.

Ccm thinks so too though, this was his quote last night...

"Our success starts with Trae Golden," Vols coach Cuonzo Martin said. "He has done a really good job taking that leadership as the point guard and running the offense. He's directing traffic, running the offense.

"Once he took that step and we became a better defensive team, I thought we had a chance to be pretty good."
