My apologies. While your beliefs and mine are far different, and the point of my post wasn't politics but rather an attempt to thank, sympathize with, and communicate with a friend....you are 1 of if not THE most reasonable of the liberal posters here when it comes to trying to be civil etc. I mean you no disrespect nor harm.

Insults are both welcome and expected here in this thread BTW...though usually in jest. Trying to and failing to steer as clear as possible from politics...in a politics forum...while talking to a friend about his decision to leave due to....politics.....was my only failure here. I do apologize to any offended though.

Edit ...I really don't see another way either. Should I have quoted his post, from this thread, then replied in a different thread? Hoping that a guy who may never even come back and see those posts here might see them elsewhere? That seems dumb. Also something posters never do in my experience....switch threads to reply...I dunno. If I had his number I would just call 72, but unlike several other posters here, I do not. He's a good guy and if he stays gone then I will miss his company, insight and knowledge. Go Vols.

That was the very reason this "OFF TOPIC Thread" was created ..... talk about everything else here but Politics.
Leave the politics out of this thread ...... there are plenty more "talking about politics" thread topics out there.
In this thread a person can learn how to fix their own cars or how to fix/make a pie ...... only sane people please.

Yes, you should jump on a trial of buttermilk pie. The name is misleading. It's a sweet pie like chess.

A few years ago I walked into a random BBQ restaurant off of i40 somewhere west of Jackson and they had buttermilk pie. I had never heard of it before. It was delicious. Dont think I've seen it anywhere since.

Would that be the famous BBQ joint in Mason, TN. called "Bozo's BBQ". I use to stop there back in the 50s on the way back from a Memphis visit w/the parents & eat that wonder BBQ. This was before I-40 had been built.

There's a lot of people at work that will create and accept as many meetings as possible. I think they do this so they can a)appear busy/important b) not do any actual work.

Used to be a matter of status. Only the "important" people went to meetings. The staff meeting followed so the semi-important people could disseminate the gospel from up on high.

Agreed my Vol brother, I hope 72 isn't gone long....and missed Grands 2c worth while he was gone too (, even though he told everyone bye except the record holder for both longest post average, and amount of "likes" given...yours truly) We would even miss having LG around to start hands down THE worst threads on VN.. .IF he were to actually ever leave...(see LGs infamous "taking my ball and going home forever" thread)...we make sure to repost it periodically, as it is THE standard for whiny butt hilarity and false threats to go away.

Glad I didn't offend, I am more than a little crazy but generally mean no actual harm to anyone, at least 60 to 70% of the time. Here anyway on VN. Real life mileage may vary. Go Vols

I love Tres Leche and will add buttermilk pie to my must try list.
My mom has a chess pie recipe that she got from her aunt (don't know if it goes back further). My wife and daughters all now use the same recipe. I guess the recipe would have to be close to 100 years old now.

Now back to things much more divisive.

Some of the hispanic bakeries down here in South Texas make the best Tres Leche cake. You'd be impressed.

Brownsville is about a 20-30 minute drive from here depending on the I-40 traffic.

I learned 13 years ago to stay off porn sites so as not to get those god awful viruses you can't get rid of.
I got a virus one time that locked up my computer. Couldn't even sign on to try & get help.

Yep, best to stay away from a lot of sites - porn or not. One thing that used to bug the crap out of me years ago was doing a Google search and having sites start popping up one after the other. I'm not sure what changed that, but I haven't seen it in several years even with safe search turned off. Don't generally use google for searches now - just sometimes if other searches don't find anything and I need to expand.

I have an ad blocker on my browser. I don't see ads on the side-bars here on VN like I used to. I also have no pop-ups either to happen like in time past. I've even forgotten about those things.

Yep, I do the same and use an anti-virus. I've found on some news sites that want you to turn off your adblocker that if you refresh usually three times or so you'll get the continue with using the adblocker choice. My main issue with ads was originally how much they slowed things down - they were always ignorable but waiting for an ad was non-negotiable.
