Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Yep, and that's from someone who hates oatmeal. One of my worst experiences was being served oat tea at a Japanese business meeting, I managed to choke down most of it in small sips to make it go longer so they wouldn't do a refill. That stuff was truly awful, and they consider it a summer specialty.
What part of Japan? I was in Okinawa and don't ever recall having that. But there was still some differences in Okinawa and mainland Japan at that time. So it might not have been something as popular in Okinawa during that time. I did have sweet potato ice cream from Blue Seal before.

The QB for the Bills, Allen is incredible. Run around you ...over you...make every throw down the field without having his feet set. Very accurate, with a cannon. Hes a better version of Rogers. Will he be a baller for 20 years like Peyton Brady or Brees? Time will tell...

But i watched him carry his entire team AT kansas cty in the playoffs last season, they lost like 45 to 42 because kermit..with 3 of tge top 7 or 8 WRs in the league...had the ball last when time ran out. I think Bills would have beat the sheit out of the rams in the super bowl. Vegas must have thought so too...the Bills were favorites to win the SB this year BEFORE they beat the rams 42-14 opening week, then beat the titans 42-7 last week...

This generation is set with QBs...glad they went to 17 games so Peytons 55TDs and 5500yds are PERMANENT records never to be broken. Allen, Kermit, Burrows are all top shelf QBs...and i hate Kermit. Doesnt change the fact that he is a very good QB. They keep hamstringing defenses with the Brady pussboy rule...pass int and roughing the passer if they even breathe on a QB or WR...but WR can push off and run "pick" routes on DBs and never get called for offensive PI....these 3 are gonna put up big numbers...especially Allen, the dude is a freaking beast. I hate that hes in the titans division. It is a WR and QB league...thats why they make the big money. Tennessee, and the Colts are the only 2 teams with a great RB who makes the big bucks...and yards. Most teams alternate 2 backs minimum these days.

Bump that loser limp. Look, none of us know what will happen tomorrow. If UT loses, it will suck. But for the first time IN A LONG TIME, I am actually looking forward to this game and not dreading it. That's a great feeling. I expect a couple of moments of panic tomorrow. I also expect a win. I have had a blast today thinking about the game. I've been lost in the wilderness long enough. I ready to cross into the Land of Promise...giants be damned. :)
With all the big-time recruits that we reportedly will have in attendance tomorrow, this could potentially be one the highest impact games we’ve played since the 1999 Fiesta Bowl on the future trajectory of our program.

When were you in Okinawa? I was there from mid '68 to late spring '70 - based in Sukiran. Our shops were in Machinato and I was frequently at the Hawk sites all over the island. It was a great place and time to be there. I took my wife to Okinawa for a short vacation (1978) while working in Japan; it was still good, but you could see that times were changing - much more Japanese influence, which was too bad because Okinawans were just not quite the same people.

As I recall, the meeting with the oat tea was at the Babcock-Hitachi facility in Kure - just south of Hiroshima. The plants where we installed the systems were near Tsuruga on the northwest coast almost due north of Kyoto. I used to do some weekend getaways to the Holiday Inn in Kyoto - they had a KFC, McDonalds, and a Dunkin Donuts - every now and then you have to find people who speak English and eat normal food even if you like Japan and the food.

I'm like McDad; I think we win tomorrow. Hopefully the jinx is gone, and we can finally get on with real games against FL; but until I see that, I have to agree with you that snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is a distinct possibility. Two customary TN football things that need to go by the wayside are the FL debacles and making any opposing QB look like a Heisman candidate.

I was there from 97 to 2000. Loved every minute of it.

I was stationed on a military base so it was no problem for me to interact with other people who spoke English. I can't remember if there were any Dunkin Donuts in Okinawa but there were McDonald's, KFC, and A&W. The A&Ws over there were like the Sonics you see here in Tennessee. There was also a Japanese fast food chain called Mos Burger. There was also a Shakey's Pizza. As far as restaurant chains went my favorites were Hokka Hokka Tei and Coco Ichibanya. There were several great local restaurants there as well.

Okinawa was also the first place I had taco rice and Japanese curry. I still make both sometimes. There are a few restaurants in Knoxville that serve Japanese curry.
