I was talking to a "Bama Fan" yesterday and he was upset with the way that Saban had coached the last 2 games. Said in the previous game he chewed out players over the little things and the past 2 games hes just stood on the sidelines with his arms crossed. The still in a state of shock down here, and it's great to watch.

I've been talkin to a Bama fan that frequents my bar...and I keep telling him -keep it up Bama, nothing lasts forever and payback is he!!

Whoa, that takes it to another leel. "Retained" is a big word to throw around. Boro, do we have signatures?

There are two parts.....

1. He already had a contract independent of what happened to Dooley, with a buyout. It would have been strongly recommended that any new coach keep him.

2. The new one did....verbally.

Boro if all the matter of fact info you have brought verifies I will never doubt a word again. Pretty strong proclamation. I think you have nailed it all along.

My bad, I thought you stated that Gruden had been "retained." That's what happens when you read these posts backwards. Thanks.

...incidently, Bama's OC last year, Jim McElwain frequents my bar during the off season with his assistant coaches. The first time he walked in, he was wearing a national championship jacket and carrying four cell phones (seriously).

He sat down at the bar with one of his assistants, and looked up at my big UT poster with Smokey on it on the wall...and said, "is this your bar?"

I nodded yes

He said, "How bout that third week in October?!"

I said, "it's getting old, coach."

We both laughed and have been friends since.

I haven't see him since the beginning of fall camp, but I can't wait to see him in December...especially if Gruden comes and Saban goes!!!!

I am back to the mindset that Jon Gruden will be the next UT head coach. Despite all their attempts things have leaked out that I doubted until verifying with people I know. Everyone is very similar in their info with small obvious embellishments like MOUs being signed and $$ amounts. I do believe there is a verbal agreement in place..

It all boils down to who you trust. If you trust info coming out of the AD then it's not gonna be Gruden. If you trust boosters info it's gonna be Gruden. Media is mixed but starting to lean Gruden. Not many are dismissing it and now even NFL writers that formerly scoffed at the idea now speak of it as a possible reality.

Very excited to see the future of UT football unfold and this losing regime that is so far over their heads out.

Dave Hart has been laying a smokescreen for the last two weeks.

It all changed for me when La Canfora said Gruden preferred Tennessee, and he wasn't even baited into saying anything about Tennessee-not that he is baited into saying anything.

I have no inside sources, but I am telling you folks that Gruden loves UT. It still may not mean that he is our coach, but UT and ND are truly the only schools he would coach in college. For all those asking why he would coach college, we are the school that has a shot.

wow....that tingling is happening again....weird.

Thanks I don't post it unless I check it. I've seen what these vultures are like. LOL.

That's a good point and very true but still besides recruiting what makes everyone so giddy that he would be the next Saban?

It has been said over and over, but he has the ability to eclipse Saban. In my mind, here is what makes Gruden special as it pertains to UT:

- He took a Raiders program and turned it into a contender

- He took over a TB program that couldn't seem to close the deal and won a SB (against the team he assembled at Oakland)

- While he was ultimately fired from TB, there were many reasons for this, and to be fair, some of it was on Gruden, but certainly not all of it

- After being fired, he dedicated himself to learning as much as he could from as many different people as he could. He started attending camps and meeting with successful coaches at every level*

- He has since earned a reputation as a gifted mentor to college QBs

- He learned a lot from Majors and still respects him immensely; he studied Gen. Neyland a lot when he was here

- He knows that the SEC has become the premier destination for coaching. He has developed mentally a strategy and he wants to bring it to the SEC. I think he knows what a challenge it will be and that is why he wants to come here before returning to the NFL (which I think he will do one day)

*the main reason why I think he will succeed

I believe it. A member of the athletic department was 100% certain Dooley was fired Sunday with an announcement Monday. Even said Chaney had accepted interim. No one there knows what Hart is doing, I think more here know what is going on than there.

One could easily argue that Jon Gruden is the face of American Football right now. Jon Gruden will bring championships to Tennessee. Jon Gruden will remind us all why UT is an all time top 10 program.
