Official Jon Gruden Thread VIII

I'm listening. Could you expound a little more please

We had several discussion in the previous threads about the MOU, and essentially the deal is:

In general, an MOU is like a "pre-contract". In some cases it is binding, but not in all cases. In any case, it lays out the basic terms of an agreement and forms the basis for the final contract.

In coaching, this last point is important, because contracts (especially for state schools) take a LONG time to draft and finalize. Usually way longer than a school can wait for a coach to start work.

The status quo is that an MOU is drafted and signed and a coach can get into the HR system and start getting paid and accessing facilities, etc. There is a lot of trust attached to the MOU in these cases.

Dooley worked under an MOU for 3 months. Mike Price only ever had an MOU at Alabama and was fired with nothing but an MOU in place.

Every coach out there coaches under an MOU at some point. The hiring process in coaching depends on it.

All the "in the knows" said weeks ago that there were a few things that had to be cleared up before JG would come. Since that time we:

1) apparently have informed Dooley he is gone

2) held a BOT vote on $ reporting, which the importance of may be nothing, but it may have some effect way down the road (I know nothing about this at all)

3) suddenly, without warning, saw a long NCAA investigation come to a conclusion

All of this within a couple of days of each other AND at which time those in the know said an MOU was signed AND during which time several reasonable NFL analysts suggested that Gruden was interested.

Even a die-hard skeptic would have to raise an eyebrow.

EXTREMELY good point!:good!:

Rough outline of most likely coaching staff and projected salaries:

HC – Gruden – $5M
OC/QB – Shoop – $500K
RB – Graham – $225K
WR – Martin – $300K
OL – Pittman – $275K
TE/ST – Bisaccia – $400K
DC/DB – Morris – $1M
DL – Hobby – $400K
LB – Barry – $400K

Head Coach Salary - $5,000,000
Assistants Salaries - $3,500,000

This leaves us with one additional assistant coach position at roughly $500K/year.

That is beautiful.....if I was Gruden, I would use that last spot to hire a guy to do nothing but evaluate film and be the recruiting coordinator. That guy coordinates who we're going after, the other assistants go get them, and then when needed, the man himself goes and pays a visit. It's brilliant, really.

Anyone notice that hardly anything happens in this country that isnt captured on video or cell phone camera, yet one of the most recognizable faces in football is popping in all over Knoxville, Fayettville, and Dallas and noone happened to catch a pic? Not saying he hasnt been in these places, just odd that noone has pictures of him or his family who has been rumored to be in every school in Knoxville . Just an observation. Seems like someone would get a pic, every kid in school has a cell phone, right?

He is elusive like that. I also heard he is vacationing in the Bermuda Triangle right now.

The problem with believing Gruden is coming is that we all get lumped in with the lunatics that keep spotting him all over the place.

Well done. Put in Cliff Notes.

This is the Gruden thread. Where did you come from? I think you may have taken a wrong turn.

I've been here and believe 100% he will be here, but these sightings are getting out of hand.

If someone saw him on campus, there would be pics.
