GRUDEN TO TENNESSEE

All of this is an educated guess based on what I’ve read and some of what I know…


1. Gruden will be the next head coach of the University of Tennessee.

2. Why? This has been in the works for quite some time. Months. If you are following in the media, it’s a scripted soap opera to hook you and the rest of the country in. This deal is already done folks. Gruden wants to distance from the Dooley firing and time to collect Tampa Bay $ (more about that below).

3. Dave Hart (UTAD) has known about this deal for quite some time, but boosters and Gruden’s agent have been working out the details. Dave Hart was not going to be brought in until this deal is ALREADY DONE. Guess what, he was reported to have a meeting with Gruden. This deal being reported in the media is just posturing to make Dave Hart look good and get credit. Which I think he deserves.

4. November 30th. I think Jon Gruden will be announced as UT Head Coach this Friday afternoon. If not, I’m still holding out hope the deal will be done soon. This is just when I think would be great time to announce it, many are saying UT will have coach in 7-10 days.

5. How much? Around 8 year deal, $6M per year, $4-5M for assistant coaches.

6. Really? Yeah. Really. I read where Dooley would be fired after UK game, or Vandy if UT loses. That happened. Next thing was that don’t believe what you hear in the media and it will be made to look like back and forth, Dave Hart and boosters have it already worked out. 100% GRUDEN.

7. Later than Nov. 30th? Possibly. UT needs to get this finalized SOON. Recruits are waiting.

8. Tampa Bay Payments. Rumored that Jon Gruden’s Tampa Bay severance package payments run out on Dec. 8th. Accepting position may interfere with those payments. If goes past this Friday, I would expect to see something by Dec. 16th. Volquest is reporting 7-10 days, something like that.

9. What about Mike and Mike this morning? Didn’t Gruden say he didn’t accept UT offer? No. Listen to it. He CLEARLY had the opportunity to absolutely crush any and all spectulation about him coaching Tennessee. What he did say what that a false statement has no truth to it. He’s leaving ESPN, ESPN knows about it. Gruden knows about it. ESPN is milking the story to get to break it, Gruden for the publicity.

10. What about the report by Jimmy Hyams that said Gruden cancelled the meeting today? Could be 100% true. Could it not also be true that deal is finalized? that UT is leaking information to take heat off Gruden? Also, FWIW, Jimmy Hyams hasn’t know much since Fulmer was ousted at UT. He’s typically a day late and a dollar short. Before the 2009 South Carolina game, he went on record saying “UT will never wear black jerseys.” 3 hours later UT ran the Tee in black. Yep. FACT: You haven’t heard ANYTHING but speculation from local and nothing from national media about this until today. Story was running from 7:15AM till now on ESPN.

So the first story is a negative one? Look, Dave Hart has UT’s athletic dept on LOCKDOWN. Anything that is getting out is deliberate. This is media manipulation at it’s best. He and the ath dept are setting up the straw man to be the hero at the end of this. If not, this thing could have been put to bed a long time ago. I heard from a friend on the '97 squad that Gruden was being offered after Bama weekend. This is a $100M organization. The PR plan is in place and working. Don’t believe me? How much about this Gruden thing has been on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU all day today…this is DAY 1 OF THE REPORTING IN THE NATIONAL MEDIA. The opening salvo started at 7:15 on Mike and Mike, as I’m typing this ESPNU is talking about this Gruden thing.

Get excited. It’s going to be one hell of a media roller coaster till we get there, but THE GRUDE is coming!!!!

I'll get on board with whoever the coach is. Even when DD was the coach you still gotta support the players. Fanbase is a big draw for recruits.

I could live with Fisher If we dont get Gruden. I watch alot of football and I love his power run game and aggressive D. Thats how big boy football is played IMO. Malzahn will be a helluva get with a elite D coordinator. I like Roman also...only if we dont get Gruden.

What im wondering is if the UT brass can supposedly come up with these absurd amounts of money for Gruden and his staff then why cant they also come up with that kind of money to get a GOOD plan b?
It seems to me like if you go opening up the briefcase full of cash at a good coach they would at least listen. Great coaches that are already employed arent gonna listen to a 3 or 4 million dollar deal but I bet they would listen to 5 or 6 million dollar one.

That's what I'm thinking.Gruden or bust!Best beilieve Hart's ass is gone!But I'm afraid it will be too late!The fan base won't put up with another mediocre coach!

There's a few guys that will get me excited to the point that I will go ahead and plan to actually start attending some games again next season. Anyone else, and I'm in wait and see mode. Al Golden is definitely a wait and see type hire for me FWIW.

Another big draw for recruits is the players in the NFL. I'm no collegiate athlete, but Peyton was the sole reason I transferred to UT. The program is fine for the most part, but the longer it takes to get back to contending, each year is a step farther from greatness.
