IMO...the 870 is tougher and more reliable, based on one variable. The 870 uses a double slide bar on the pump whereas Mossberg uses a single slide bar...at least they used to.

I have (4) 870's from the original version to the Super mag Turkey gun 3 1/2". Rarely clean them, and rarely have issues if ever. I think I had a firing pin freeze up one time.

Mossberg 500's have dual slide rails. Have for years.

The closest connection to the SEC is he did win the Paul "Bear" Bryant award in 2011. :thumbsup:
Nothing else that I can find but that's easily overcome with a staff.

Thanks, I am kind of leaning towards the 870. I am going to sell a few guns most likely and replenish with more of a nod towards home defense than hunting.

I never liked Mossberg because they had flimsy slide bars and a lose forehand grip.

Check out local pawn shops.

Mine was made in the early 50's and still like new. They don't wear out.

Bought mine for 150 bucks. Sent off to have a matte finish on it. Put synthetic stock and forearm on it.

Owned for 10 years.
