Official Kentucky Basketball Coach Thread

I struggled with how to put that. The expectations are growing but not anywhere near the point where UT basketball is expected to finish 1st in the SEC and win a NC every year.

for whatever it's worth, billy d is evidently 40 minutes late for his speech thing he has at Marshall right now. I have no idea why and i don't think it means anything whatsoever. However, a UK friend I have is acting just like Tuscaloosa, and is updating me every ten minutes Donvovan isn't there.

only a delusional wildcat fan could interpret a traffic jam as a sign that Donovan must be leaving Florida for Kentucky.

Well, Donovan did not sneak out like the Baltimore Colts, blow off tomorrow's meeting with Foley, and appear at a UK press conference today, as some people apparently expected him to do. Now, the Gator side is hoping Donovan will sign an extension tomorrow and make an announcement at Friday's celebration. UK fans think the lack of an announcement either way by the end of Friday would be a sign that he is delaying his UK announcement this week out of respect for UF. I don't think he is going to UK, but, of course, nothing is official until the ink is dry (right Bama?).

We ALL like a good conspiracy theory, don't we? Some of my favorites in this process:

"Billy was wearing a blue tie/wristband at the game today! Is he sending us a message?" (Nevermind that Florida's colors include Blue).

"There's a flight from Gainesville to Lexington tomorrow on flightaware.com!"

"My sister's best-friend's hairdresser's love slave knows a UK insider who SWEARS that she saw Billy D. at the Cheddar's on Nicholasville Road light night."

and of course...

"Christine Donovan was in Lexington last night registering her kids for school."

Sheesh.

OK, this is NOT rumour, from WKYT's website, a story that broke last night:

UK Gets Permission to Speak with Donovan

27 Sportsfirst has learned from our sources that UK has asked Florida for permission to speak with Billy Donovan. Those sources also tell us that permission has been granted.

That's not exactly earth shattering news. You knew they would talk at some point, and you know there have been multiple behind the scenes conversations with agents and representatives.

It seems to me that the meeting with Foley is the first really big event. Is that today?

Yes, the meeting with Foley is today, and the celebration at the O'Dome is Friday night. Since he hasn't yet announced UK, I think if he will go to UK, it won't happen until at least Saturday. However, I still expect him to resign with the Gators. But, who knows? If Barnhart called me, I'd talk to him.

I think he and his agent are very savvy businessmen and that Donovan will have a salary of at least $2.5 mill a year to stay at Florida, with bonuses well into the 3 range.

At this point, his contract should make him the highest paid coach in the country. As I said before, I was surprised the reported Kentucky offer didn't do that. He should be the top guy, if for no other reason that, among the handful that can command that price, his contract will be the newest.

I'll still never understand why coaching searches are conducted in such a public manner. Everybody always ends up with egg on their face.

Which will be a phone call that will last exactly as long as his conversation with Frank Broyles about the Arkansas job.

Maybe they can discuss other canadidates, like Broyles and Calipari did. I think he would be more inclined to listen to UK, but I don't think he will leave, considering he already has a 30 win team every year where he is at now.
