Any of you that follow the baseball team closely: how much better is the team than everyone thought vs. how much of this good start is due to the level of opponent so far?

I know the obvious is that conference play will show us what they really have this year, but it seems like they are improved when everyone (me included) thought this team would be very bad. I am encouraged by the start, but realize the level of the opponents as well.

I was optimistic that they would be a winning team, and predicted they would win 10-12 of their first 15.

Right now like LSU they have been playing cupcakes. When they play division games, and on the road against top 25 teams we will find out if they are contenders or pretenders.

This team may be a little bit improved, but the record looks great right now due to the level of competition. I fully expect to be around .500 in conference play and fighting for a final spot in Hoover. IMO. JMO.

And BTW, the Vols win 11-5.

A 1,2,3 9th inning with the Vols beating the Jaspers 11-5.
The Vols win their 11th game, 5 straight wins their longest win streak of the year, and the last 6 runs were scored with a two run homer, and grand slam by Duffy.

Never mind about Manhattan being the 2nd best team we have faced. They are 2-7 so one game better than New Orleans, and Morehead State.

Thanks for the input. I have only "watched" games via Gametracker and it is sometimes hard to get the entire picture just seeing a team like that and reading stats. It will interesting to see what happens in conference play. Hopefully the momentum from the wins will carry over into playing well in conference as opposed to not having them ready for the conference.

I think they have a legit chance to make it too Hoover. We'll find out a lot more next weekend.

First Division team they play is the Wildcats. I think it's not bad if the Vols are not in 3rd, 2nd, or 1st when division games start for the Vols.
Doubters could be saying the Vols are will be shown to be pretenders they can't beat the big dogs.

They want to show they are not pretenders then win the series against the Gators,Gamecocks, LSU Tigers, Hogs, etc.

A two run homer to give the Vols a lead 2-1 in the top of the 3rd.

Also other fantastic news Illinois Chicago is beating 7-4 in the bottom of the 5th.

Game 3 is final the Vols come back to win 3-2, and defeat the Jaspers winning their sixth straight. Tommorow the Vols can complete a 4 game sweep.
Vols prove my prediction right winning 10-12 of their first 15 games.

12-1 Vols in the bottom of the 6th.

Most encoruaging sign of the past week to me - 6 games and the most runs given up was 5. Makes me feel a little better about our pitching depth.

It's final Vols sweep the Jaspers steamrolling them 15-1 in game four.
7th win in a row, and are now 13-2. If they can win one more home game they could tie their best start since 2006.
