Peyton needs 51 passing touchdowns to beat the record set by Tom Brady in 2007.

(Please no discussion on the lack of merits for this record. We all know a second Super Bowl is the ultimate goal, but it would be nice for a Vol great to hold one of the more prestigious individual records in the NFL.)

It's gonna happen. Manning will be #2 alltime in yards in about 2 more games..I smell a #1 ranking all time in TD's and yards in the next 2 years.

Hey OP, I am OCD and think it would be cool if you specify whether the game is home or away.

I think 31 TD's in the next 11 is possible. Even if he gets 2 in one game, which is possible, he'd need at least 1-2 more games to throw 4. I for one would like to see Peyton set a new record that may not ever be broken. 55 TD's would be nice and over 5500 yards passing.

I have a UT football signed by him while he was still at UT. I wonder what that will be worth in a few years? :)

Although the season is still quite young, he is presently on pace to break ALL of the following single-game records:

Highest passer rating, season (minimum 100 attempts): 122.5, Aaron Rodgers 2011

Highest passer rating, season (minimum 100 attempts), 16 games: 121.1, Peyton Manning 2004

Most pass completions, season: 468, Drew Brees 2011

Highest completion percentage, season: 71.23, Drew Brees, 2011 (468/657)

Most games with at least 80% pass completion rate, season (minimum 20 passes per game): 3, Ben Roethlisberger, 2007; Brett Favre, 2009; Drew Brees, 2011

Highest yards per game, season: 342.25, Drew Brees 2011

Most passing yards, season: 5,476, Drew Brees 2011

Most Passing Touchdowns, Season: 50, Tom Brady 2007

Most Games 4+ TD Passes, Season: 6, Dan Marino 1984, Peyton Manning 2004

Best touchdown pass–interception differential, season: 42 (50–8) Tom Brady, 2007

Best touchdown pass–interception ratio, season: 9-1 (36-4) Tom Brady, 2010 (minimum 12 TD passes)

He should get closer to a lot of those records next week against pitiful Jacksonville. I never overlook any opponent, but this is as close as I can get to being positive of a sure win I think.

No doubt. In fact, this game has tied the all time NFL spread set in Vegas, at 28 points.

That game, however, could impact Peyton's record-breaking pace in two ways. There is little doubt that Peyton will carve up Jacksonville's defense like a Thanksgiving turkey. The Broncos are favored by 28 and the Jaguars have scored only 51 points all season. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that Peyton throws for 200-250 yards and 2-3 touchdowns in the first half, and the Broncos lead 35-0 or 42-0. Does Peyton even play in the second half? In that scenario, Peyton would become a victim of his own success.

I think that could happen. There is no doubt he could easily throw for 5 touchdowns at the rate he's been playing.

Throughout his history in the NFL he plays the entire game. He views it as practice and the guy that backed him up at Indy NEVER got to play.

I'm assuming you're not including years like 2009; he started the last 2 games then sat pretty quickly.

That simply is not true with respect to 2005 and 2009, two of the best Colts' teams that Peyton was a part of. In '05, the Colts started 13-0, then lost two out of the last three regular season games during which Peyton played very little. Jim Sorgi, the backup qb that year, was 42-61 passing, for 444 yards and three touchdowns (2005 Indianapolis Colts Statistics & Players - Pro-Football-Reference.com). The Colts did not make it past the first round of the playoffs that year as they got off to a slow start offensively, having rested most of their offensive skilled position players the two previous weeks.

In '09, they got off to a 14-0 start, then lost the last two regular season games rather convincingly for the same reason; Tony Dungi effectively benched his offensive starters for most of those games.

The backup played the last 2 possessions vs philly last week.

I think volinbham is talking about Brady. Fool was throwing 4th quarter TDs with 6 score leads in his record breaking season. Manning does sit from time to time.
