Official: Manning Passing TD (Season) Record Countdown [51]

Since the Patriots are going to win, the Broncos needs to play to win next week. So Manning could tack on 2-3 more next week and get the single season yardage record.

Eh, slight maybe.

The Patriots' game is before Denver plays theirs. If New England loses in the early game (though it's against the Bills, so that's probably an unlikely outcome), Denver could still easily just sit Manning and Co or decide to pull them early in their game.

If they don't make it this year it should come as a huge shock. They will have home field advantage, a first round bye and the most dominant receiving corps.

Congrats to Peyton on 51!

I'm just afraid the Broncos defense will be too suspect to be competitive in the playoffs, and with Von Miller's injury today they could become even more so. While the Broncos offense is the best offense in the league, it's arguable that their defense is one of the worst, and I don't want to see them getting into too many shootouts.

If I were them, I wouldn't sit. That really has never worked out well for Manning. I would play into the 3rd quarter at least.

But I think it's moot, I don't see the Pats losing to the Bills.

I worry about the same thing.

Nobody is better equipped to win a shootout than the Broncos. Having said that, I understand what you are saying. The porous nature of Denver's defense is a major concern, if for no other reason than the fact that you cannot count on your offense being consistently red hot throughout the playoffs. Stifling defense, if you possess one, is more reliable, particularly if inclement weather should intervene. I hope that Peyton has a conversation with Fox, however, about the dangers of taking your foot off the gas pedal going into the playoffs. Peyton has far too much experience with the rust that can set in as a result of that approach. Personally, I hope that the Broncos are matched up with Indy at home; I believe that Denver would be highly motivated for that rematch.

I'll be somewhat surprised if Denver makes the Super Bowl. Denver's defense isn't playing particularly well. What Denver has going for them is potentially home field advantage.

I'll be rooting my ass off for Peyton to win another ring.

My projection is that the Broncos will draw Indy in the divisionals. They should win that one. Then, they would likely draw New England in the AFC Championship.

He absolutely destroyed the record. If he wins a Super Bowl, then GOAT will cement his status. Plus, if he wins this year it will have to be outside in New York.

He said last week he doesn't think the record will stand long but I have a hard time seeing 55 being surpassed anytime soon even if the NFL goes to 18 games.

40 TD passes has only been accomplished 10 times. 6 of those by 3 QBs (2 ea Manning, Brees, and Marino). It was done 3 times in 2011 (the year that training camp was shortened due to the strike and QBs feasted on DBs).

My point is it's hard enough to throw 40 in 16 games. 55 should be unattainable for a while.

Would've been cool to get 5500 and 55....that being said, I don't think anybody gets 5400 and 54 in the same season for a long time.

No doubt. Peyton just completed the single greatest season by an NFL QB. I think this will stand for a long time.

Just from reading Bronco forums, their fans are worried that Peyton will retire as soon as he wins a ring, even if it's this year. I don't get that vibe at all from Manning. I think he'll still be playing 3-5 years from now, if he stays healthy. He won't retire until he truly believes he can't play on top of his game anymore.

It's wild to think this was set up by the 7 thrown in the first game. Even if he had only thrown an average 3 in that game he still would have broken the record.

Looked to me like it wouldn't have been much trouble to have rolled up more yds/td's had there been any need to play the 2nd half against the Raiders.
