Getting the injuries out of the way early................hopefully. Don't need to lose guys in the playoffs like they have seemingly done every single season they qualified.
Honestly believe if they had Johansen and Fiala for the Cup run against Pittsburgh, the series would have ended up differently. Almost did anyway if it wasn't for a questionable offside call in Game 1 and a flippin early whistle in Game 6.
I suppose it makes sense why they'd do that - hit a reset button, get a fresh face to try to connect with a rebuilding team. The front office apparently doesn't think Quenneville is the guy for this rebuild
Chicago did exactly what a rebuilding team is supposed to do about 10 years ago. They drafted well, developed home-grown young stars, supplemented those stars with complimentary pieces, and managed the cap really well to win 3 titles. Some years there was a significant amount of turnover among the complimentary pieces they had to let go and it didn't matter; they were still good.
The story just kind of naturally came to an end. That's the whole point of the salary cap era. They might have tried to keep that core together longer than they should have, but good Lord, they won 3 Cups. Can any of their fans complain? They certainly didn't underachieve during their window of opportunity. It's interesting because in hindsight it looks like that Nashville playoff series a couple of years ago might have been the final dagger than did them in.
