Official Nashville Predators Thread

Call me crazy. Clear 20-22 million in cap. Make a run for Duchene. I would ask San Jose what it would take to get Hertl. Maybe Turris and 2 1st rounders. Heck I don’t know

Duchane didn’t sign an extension when he was traded at the deadline, so he will be an unrestricted free agent. It’s fairly known how much he loves Nashville so Preds will definitely make a run for him if they can figure out the money. If they can land him that takes care of some more offense that’s desperately needed.

In fairness Dallas has been a sleeping giant of sorts, they are really as skilled as anyone left. That said, Preds look a lot like a younger version of the Rangers teams of 4-5 years ago

Not trolling ive just been getting into hockey the last few years. What happened with that team and are they still good?

They tried to keep a group together that was very good but not good enough to get it done, and bolted on swap meet parts until the wheels came off.
With the cap structure of the NHL it's hard to get a legitimate top 6 / top 4 guy without paying in the off-season.

If I'm Nashville I look at moving Subban or (more likely) Ellis, as contracts are just as important as ability in these matters.

I think Nashville needs a new coach, Laviolette is at his best as an underdog. I don't know who, but I'd call Kevin Dineen after I see what will happen in Toronto with Babcock.

That makes sense and I can see that happening. As far as coaching I dont know all that much about Hockey strategy so ill leave that to others to decide

Why does PK get booed everywhere?
He has a brash, look-at-me attitude that flies in the face of how hockey players are "supposed to act." Perhaps not as much today, but earlier in his career he had a reputation as a guy who'd lay questionable hits and dive a lot. He's grown up some in that regard. Some people (not me) will tell you that race has something to do with it.

Hockey culture has a "get off my lawn" mentality among some fans/players that is kind of similar to baseball, and Subban has always been an iconoclast in that way. Most hockey players publicly come off as humble, quiet guys who just work hard and go about their business, rarely saying anything interesting.

Yeah. He gets a bad rap because he has a big personality and hockey elitists don’t like big personalities. I also do think race plays a part personally. If he didn’t have the personality I think it wouldn’t be as big of an issue but I think the personality plus race is big reason most hockey fans don’t like him.

Smh...everything isnt race related. Sydney crosby gets booed all over, do you feel its because hes white? We also have simmonds playing for us, hes black and doesnt get booed. He was beloved by philly fans. So if its racial, why not him? Subban has a personality/attitude to him that most players dont. He has the villain role. Playing the race card over everything is out of hand and partly to blame for alot of the division in this country.

Yeah - ultimately I don't think it's a race thing because if a white guy acted the same way Subban did (e.g., flashy, dancing around, brash, etc.) he'd also get booed. I mean, he is an arrogant and self-absorbed guy. Most hockey players don't publicly act like he does...he doesn't act the way a hockey player is "supposed to." The NHL is a lot like MLB in that guys with personality won't be embraced by a lot of the fans. If you have "personality," the NFL or especially the NBA is the place for you.

The attitude/demeanor is what the old school purists don't like. Sean Avery is a prick, and is white, and is hated by people. You can be a guy of questionable character - Patrick Kane is a perfect example - but if around the rink you keep your head down, appear humble, work hard and don't say much, etc., you'll be liked, at least as a player.

Except he also made the single largest donation ever as a player IIRC, but hey, he sucks

Like I was saying, hockey culture likes or dislikes you based on how you act on the ice. You can be a prick, but if you appear to be a humble, hard-working person on the ice you'll be liked. You can be a good guy but if you're showy, arrogant, etc. on the ice you'll be disliked, especially by fans of other teams.

Most interesting things from the press conference:

- Ryan Ellis refused to say if he was hurt, said it was up to the team to decide whether or not to release that information. A strange, passive-aggressive answer. Perhaps they were pressuring him to play hurt?
- About 2/3rds of the way through the season, McCarthy stopped running the PP and Muse took over. Placed a huge emphasis on it all year. I don't know about y'all, but I noticed no difference in the PP from beginning to end, and it's hard to believe they put a huge emphasis on it 1) simply given how bad it was and 2) schematically it seemed identical from the season opener until Game 6.

The NHL started tracking power play percentage in 1977-78. Only 30 teams (out of 1060) have had a lower power play percentage than the Preds did this past season (one of which was the expansion year Preds). Lot of bad teams down there, granted one of the bad power play teams was the Sabres that won the East in 1997-98 but still, waaaaaaaaaay on down that list. Definitely need to get a better power play next season.

Separate note, all 4 division winners lost in the first round of the playoffs, it's a weird year. How the Preds were one of the division winners despite being very up and down the last 60 games is beyond me.

They started really strong (opened season 13-3) and finished strong (8-3). Basically the bookended a long stretch of .500 play with 21-6.

Until they finished with that flourish and got to face Dallas instead of St Louis or Winnipeg, I thought they had a 100% chance of being eliminated in the first round. Turns out getting the better seeding didn't matter. The way that they played in the playoffs, I think they would have been eliminated by any of the Western teams that made it in.

It's really disappointing they looked that bad. I think most people have forgotten now, but Dallas themselves had well-documented team chemistry/effort problems earlier in the year, so bad that their CEO publicly blasted Benn and Seguin, who were really underachieving. They got it figured out by the time it counted - the Preds didn't.

I've seen PIT, TOR, NJ and VAN mentioned with just a quick search

I get it (contract), but there's other players I'd rather move first

Same here. As much as I screamed every time he clapped a shot toward the net from around the cookeville city limits, there are others I would rather see go.

I think PK will be gone due to contract, but we can also get assets with him. With the expansion draft coming up, I think we move him now. That way we can protect Fabbro as part of the 4 defensemen. and it gives us some cap room, which we will be hurting on soon. I think Turris gets moved also, we will have to give up something so someone/something will take on that contract.
