*****Official NSD Thread 2017 updated as the commits come in

ESPN just showed him as in while Butch was interviewed

Cool. I had to step away, and when I got back the feed had ended with every commit signed save him. Figured he would fax his papers in same time as Gray.

Have a feeling this underestimated class will have a few greats. They'll play with heart and a chip on their shoulder.

Nearly half of top 50 NFL Draft prospects were 3-star high school recruits or worse | High School Sports Blog

I hope so too, but I think you might be looking at it the wrong way. It means that over half of the expected top 50 came from the elite 250 or so 4 and 5 star players, while less than half came from the thousands and thousands of 3 star or lower prospects. It's about the odds of a player becoming good, and that does have correlation with elite prospect status.

Georgia jumping back into the top 5 while we fall out of the top 10 is worrying that we are getting ready to get passed before we actual make it to top of the division.

# 17 in the composite rankings? Not good. Spin it any way you like...call names like "negavol" at everyone...tell us how many 3 star guys turn out to be really good...and how 5 star players are overrated, etc etc etc...but this is definitely slipping a LOT in the recruiting area.

Be careful... the sunshine pumpers and butch apologists will come and get you for that comment.

Lowlife negavol..Hundreds of three stars turn out to be great players...Dozens of five stars never amount to crap..etc etc etc

Man oh man. Far more 5 stars turn great than 3 stars. Which would you rather have?

I may be negative but at least I'm not delusional.

It all depends on the 5* in question. JRM was a 3*...didn't play like one. Preston Williams was a 5*...didn't play like one. Our experiences with 5* can't miss players has had way more misses than hits as far as I can recollect.

You're pointing out the exceptions. So taking 10 random 5*s is no different than taking 10 random 3*s? This is crazy

Cry away then. I like the kids we signed. They want to be here. The ones that didn't..eff em...but to answer that question. Allow me to choose the 5* and hell yeah, randomly assigned...hell no. You could get the all star team or the all bust team. For instance Hunter Johnson..I believe and have been on the record since before he decommitted, that he is a MASSIVE bust waiting to happen...give me the scrappy 3* McBride with real potential.

Fact is that no one knows how each player will pan out. Another fact is there is a difference between the MAJORITY of 3*s and the MAJORITY of 5*s.

My ignore list blew up today.
It's like Christmas!

Tennessee received LOIs from 28 soon to be VFLs that are going to Give their all for Tennessee on a regular basis. It's a great day!

All the complaining sad little Legion of the Miserable posters are becoming a mob in my ignore list.

Serious question for Freak; does your ignore list have a maximum #? And secondly, they can't get out unless I let them out right? :)

I agree we are down this cycle but look at this class going pro. How many three stars vs five stars are we putting into the league?

Putting aside this "sunshine pumper" and "nega-vol" bull****, Butch has shown his shortcomings as an onfield coach. As far as recruiting, this class could obviously be better, but it's not bad. It fills needs of depth, and if we're lucky, will have a couple of players that outplay their star rating. Add that with the overhauled staff(which I don't think is done), and Butch has no excuses to fail. The question now is what should be considered success. IMO, 9-4 is success. 8-5 is maybe enough to earn another year. Anything less is failure and should reasonably spell the end of Butch's tenure at UT. And it's not about rooting for failure. The cards will fall where they will. It's up to Butch to control his own future.

I will say I hope those expecting a NSD surprise have realized not every NSD has that surprise. It doesn't mean a class is a failure.

8-5? 9-4? It'll be his 5th year! I guess you don't expect TN to win the SEC or the SEC east even? We are a top tier program! Raise your expectations or start cheering for another team

He is talking about the expectations for next year, we are breaking in a new QB, a new starting running back. Filling some holes at receiver on offense. We will have some spots to fill in defense as well.

Signing classes full of hope and projects will lead to constant rebuilding. Not so much reloading like other schools. When those projects don't pan out, you're fighting from behind again.

I know exactly what's he's talking about and if butch had a couple of east champ wins under his belt, or some more significant wins he'd be given a longer rope. But he doesn't! This idea of always having an excuse is old. The east has been terrible and he still can't win it! Raise your expectations!

That 2018 season though!!! :pepper:
