Humdinger is right. The RPI and SOS formulas are not subjective and are void of any bias. The same formula that determines that we are ranked in the 280's is the same formula that has determined that Syracuse is #1 in the RPI and Long Beach State has the #1 SOS.
While we as fans can choose to disagree with the perceived strength of team A and team B, we are going to be guided by preconceived notions of how good a team is or isn't in our opinion. To say you have lost faith in the system equates to saying you never had faith in the system to begin with, as it is largely unchanged and without regard to team names, historical relevance, or any other of the notions we use, be it intentional or otherwise..
Both measure the net value of teams you have played at any point in the season and also the teams they have played. As humdinger pointed out, we have played some sorry teams with sorry records and even lost to one of them.
Both RPI and SOS will be elevated in the coming weeks as we face much better competition going forward. The more of those games we win, the higher our RPI climbs as well.
