The bar for improvement over this past season is set painfully low. Pretty much all any new coach has to do to show he or she has improved the team is to not lose to Alabama for the 6th consecutive time, not lose to Vanderbilt, and to get past the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

With the right coach -- one who runs a disciplined program and knows how to teach working offenses and defenses -- I feel strongly that with the players that coach will have next season the Lady Vols should show improvement from the get-go.

I'm not saying that if the Lady Vols aren't in the Final Four next season that the coach is a dud. That's an insane expectation. But what I AM saying is that I believe a really good coach, as early as next season, will eliminate most (if not all) of the more egregious head-scratcher-type losses the Lady Vols have suffered over the past few years.

I honestly feel like all THIS year's team needed to have a terrific season was the belief that they had at least the same, or perhaps even better, tools to work with as their opponents had. But they didn't trust their leadership. A strong-willed leader will get these players back into the mental/physical state of readiness that will give them the confidence they've lacked.

I can't wait to watch this team take the floor with pride and passion for winning again!!!!!!!

Shew, Fulmer had me worried for a while. I'm glad the obvious was obvious to the AD who needed to make a hard decision based on friendship but certainly not in performance. Now, let's go get an excellent leader for our Lady Volunteers!
You know it killed him to have to do this. But, he did it, for the good of the program. She's lost the locker room. She's recruited very well. But, the players aren't developing, under her watch. I hate to see her go, in this manner. She is a true VFL, and gave her all for Tennessee.

Fulmer:"It's important to all of us that Lady Vols basketball maintains its status among the elite."

Maintaining its status among the elite requires that we regain status among the elite.
The program is NOT elite by any means...but is "storied" and still an elite opening. Holly destroyed "elite" status years ago....but this is a "legendary" program...still with a lot of cache in women's college basketball.

I openly apologize because I said Fulmer did not have the stones to fire Holly !!!! I was wrong and so proud of Coach Fulmer for keeping the Lady Vols a contender !!!!
Ill admit I wasn't sure if he had the cajones to do this...cuz he hasn't had to fire anyone important till now. Never questioned Phil's legend as a coach and VFL though. Way to go Phil.

Hope he did it in such a way that she can get her retirement from the system. I am sure they did. Has anyone heard the buyout amount. Enjoy yourself Holly

I seriously do not believe Phil would have fired Holly unless he had an ace up his sleeve. I would bet that he has already contacted Walz and at least fielded the interest of three or more candidates. This is a crucial hire that requires a proven winner and I believe that Phil is well aware of this. We need to place our faith in Phil to choose the right person, unless proven otherwise.
