Official Tennessee at FIU - Game 1 Thread - 7 PM

Rough way to start season. 5 errors (2 by pitchers) and a pen that puts on 8 of 18 batters faced are problems a coach must be held accountable for. C'mon CDS!

Great start for Marks though! Encouraging.

Don't tell me you're going to start holding Dave accountable....

I have to say...and I don't know how to exactly...I listen to these games and I hear the other team rolling pitchers in, sometimes for just one at bat and then you HEAR enough to know that Lenstrohm doesn't have "it" tonight and we just keep rolling with him...

This is a terrible thing to say, I realize it, but it feels like we are conserving our pitching for game two and three and conceding game 1 and it's felt that way for the last few years...am I just totally off base?

Our bullpen is our weakness.

Our bullpen is our weakness.

Yeah, but we walked 6 to their 3 and most of those were lead off walks...pitching is supposed to be our thing...Gotta get up and do it again tomorrow, hoping for a different outcome.

GBO!!!

Stats are up...they pitched 6 guys, we pitched 3, we had 5 E's, they had 4, we struck out 9 and they struck out 16.

16.

Had no problem with Santiago hitting. Huge talent, and we will need him this year. Get big at-bats early for him. As far as talent is concerned, he probably has more than much of the pinch hit options.

CDS puts a freshman in that situation? His first college AB. Nobody else on the bench with some experience?

Complete agree, don't bring in a freshman to his first college at bat in a situation like that! Houser was 0 for 3 I understand CDS wanting to pinch hit for him but he had plenty of guys on the bench with college experience. Poor judgement............Houser not much improvement in my opinion.
:thud:

Check my stats...I mean really...check my stats.

Are we really 14-29 on Fridays since CDS took over...of those 14 wins only 8 are SEC wins? Of those 8, do half of those belong to Godley in year one?

Is that right?

ugh...wasted performance by Marks. Darn it.

OUCH! That loss hurts, but hopefully it will be a learning curve for players & coaches. Get back UP off the mat, Vols, & take care of business Saturday! Thanks for the good information, 66. :hi:

Would have rather seen Youngblood, Schultz, Wormsley or Rodgers in that situation. Santiago may be a "huge talent" but you just don't put him in that situation last night.

Unless there had been some more news come out, Schultz is out. Wormsley hit around .120 last year, as did Rodgers in limited appearances. Youngblood was around .300 with less than 40 at-bats and most were bunt singles, which isn't going to work with bases loaded. I just don't see a problem with it. I see your point of view, and respect it, but I liked that decision.

It's ok this is baseball and it happens. Vols need to have short term memory and go get these next two games and win the series. I am confident that they will. Will be listening to the game tonight at 6:00pm.

It's kind of misleading Friday night since the problem was relief pitching and not starting.

In particular 1 inning in relief.

it's hard to win against the other team's elite pitcher when you dont have elite talent yourself.

The talent dropped big time after Delmonico left. Serrano stated last year that getting Tennessee to the SEC Tourny was more difficult than taking Irvine and Fullerton to the CWS. Apparently, the board didn't like Delmonico but he still won games. Raleigh only had 1 winning season in 4 years.

If true that is a pretty crazy stat.
