John Wilkerson has to come up with something different to say in situations like this......"A grand slam and South Carolina wins 9-6. THIS is Tennessee Baseball."
Tough loss but tomorrow is a new day. Could be up 2-0 but hopefully, this team will learn from early mistakes and be tougher at the end of the year. But, I"m not sure Owenby is cut out to be a closer. Seems like in every save, he has loaded the bases before closing it out. Tonight, it caught up to him.
Rise, is this a shock to you? We have been saying all year that the pitching depth is very thin. Currently, the Vols have 4 pitchers they can count on: the 3 weekend starters and Andy Cox. Once they used Cox last night, he was out for the weekend which left a very shaky bullpen.
It hurts even more that they could have very easily have been going for the sweep tomorrow instead of down 0-2.
Rise, you are wrong. The #2 team in the nation was not going down without a fight. They showed the heart it takes to win two games like they did today. The Vols showed a lot of fight, they just didn't do the small things needed to win either game like get down a good bunt on the squeeze in the 14th inning of the first game and catch a flyball and throw strikes in the 9th of the 2nd game.
The team was in a position to win both games. Individuals have to make plays and/or pitches to finish the deal. The Vols are close. Hopefully, they learn from these tough to take situations. I'm betting they are competitors and will bounce back just fine over the next month.
If you are giving up on this team now, you don't understand baseball.
BO51, in baseball, you better have a short memory and a positive attitude. Let's get one tomorrow.
well I guess the Vols will finish in the bottom of the league this year, same curse as in FB, fire a good coach and suck for the forseeable future
