Official Tennessee at UC Irvine Game 3 Thread - 4 PM

You're right, of course.

It didn't do it last year, when we had good non-conference series wins vs. UNLV and @ Arizona State and mauled all the weak opponents in the early going.

The point I was trying to make is that this team needs to turn it around fast even to be eligible, let alone to receive an at-large bid. Should have been clearer.

I just heard CDS on the radio, he's pretty committed to making up those missed games. He said he kept tabs on the teams in this region that didn't get to play the past week, he reeled off a pretty good list of teams that might be looking for games. He did mention the selection committee and the importance of getting in as many non-conference games as possible. Specifically, he mentioned he's been talking with the coach at Tennessee Tech.

In talking about the team and their performance I believe there was some controlled anger in his voice. He said he told the UCI coach that he was impressed that when he pushed a button the UCI players executed.

He said we need to fix some things, looking for players that are going to bring the right energy. The little details aren't where they need to be. He specifically talked about the play VJax missed and said everybody will point to that, but that the walk that got the lead off man on was the first mistake in a series of things that led to the play in CF. He talked about several others like the errant throw that Cox made.

He said point blank that we were a more talented team than UCI, which is unusual.

All in all I liked the tone, the tenor of his comments, he wasn't making excuses. He said a couple of times that we are a veteran club, the time is now, we can't wait until the SEC games to win.

My own thought here, those 6 games we missed...I think we would have seen the line-up we saw in Game 3 at UCI from the start of the series had we gotten in those other games and my personal feeling is that we probably would have won that series.

If Vjax can be consistent at the 1 spot, it will be huge for this team. I really liked what I heard from Leftridge and Plunkett. Plunkett really came on at the end of the summer league stuff, if he's the real deal that will also be huge.

The relievers must stop giving up the walks to start innings, but other than that, I've been impressed overall with the pitching.

Andrew Lee injured his ankle on the base paths, that's why we didn't see him more in the series.

I'm hoping this 5 game home stand, well if we get all the games in, will get this team going.

GBO!!!
