Incoming ‘23 class would be incoming too. I know this is just the list of players in/from the portal, but before anyone freaks out and says we have so many more going out, the need for spots from the ‘23 class is why.

I am really curious who we can get at WR and possibly at RB.
I know CB is the biggest need but anyone there will be upgrade I believe.
Is QB still in play ? I know Joe had a great game but we only have 3 scholarship guys and we ended up using Walk-on in 2 deep last two games.

I’m curious how many spots we have left for transfers and high school for 23. I’m guessing about 6 to 8 spots?

I heard "Swain" say on his show a WR 6'5" 200 lb from Oregon is visiting this weekend.

According to the guys at VQ, they're not actively pursuing a Qb. I sounds like they want help at DL, WR, and CB.

I also think that a big bruiser RB might garner some attention, someone like MAFAH from clemson if he decides to leave (pure speculation on my part).

I am making a copy of the OP list. It will be interesting to see which outgoing player makes it somewhere else in top 25 teams and who will do well at a smaller school. I wish all Vols the well. Just wish the 2023, 2024, and on and on Vols...the best! Feeling a Natty for us in the near, not distant, future.

Is QB still in play ?

Why does everyone want a new QB? I understand the backup QB is the most popular guy on the team but we have 2 QB's who have been in the system for years....oh yeah and a 5star incoming freshman!!

A portal guy isnt coming to UT to be third or 4th on the depth chart. A new QB doesn't know the system and would take half a season to learn it.....

Roll with what we got!! Milton played good in Miami and will be even better next year.

As long as Jackson is staying, we're not gonna take another QB. I know he was hurt this year but he's a great fit for the Offense and will compete to start. I know Nico is all world 5 star and everything, but Jackson is probably a better option early on if something happens to Joe - he's had a year in the system and this system is so dependent on the QB making good reads.

Really wish Walker Merrill would stay. I think he's making a decision because he thinks squirrel is going to take his PT. I'm sure they can line him and squirrel up with two bigger WRs on the outside.

Hope he changes his mind.

Merrill lost patience, but I also believe he should stay. He still has time to be a really good player here. He's got the skill set and athleticism to play much more moving forward. Instead, he'll likely transfer to a mid major and probably won't be heard of again.

The only other one is Williams-Thomas. I wish he'd grind for a few years before jumping ship. It's clear he needed development, but wasn't prepared to put in the work to get better like kids used to do.

I'm cool with freeing up scholarships with the others exiting.

And OLine. John Campbell is visiting today and tomorrow, I think. OT transfer from Miami. Would love to land him.

Should we be looking for more OL guys? Seems the newly signed class is a little lean numbers wise

We took four in the 22 class. None have of those have played nor entered the portal as of now. Showing five for the current class. One is a juco and one a highly rated transfer from Texas. We will have several veterans back next year as well (Spraggins, Davis, Mays, Ball, Lampley, Mincey and I think maybe Crawford (?).

I agree with you on both kids. I believe lack of rotation frustrated them. We run an up-tempo offense where substitutions arent made so touches are hard to come by .. while both would have found their niche here eventually, they chose a different route. Hopefully both find success elsewhere.

Your absolutely right about the up-tempo philosophy being problematic for rotations. I bet Merrill is the one WR the staff wishes there was more opportunities for last season. I don't believe he's the prototype burner in the slot the staff wants, but I believe he'd be really good in the quick passing game....catching it short and using his athleticism to make bigger plays.

We have 1 QB that's been in the system years, then a RS FR who has less than a years experience and TR FR with a few weeks experience. NO experience if Milton goes down.

Most schools are like that. Clemson was like that, bama, Georgia, Ohio state, tcu, Michigan. It’s not just a Tennessee problem. Good schools normally have qbs take over their red shirt sophomore year. No need to get a portal qb when you have such a talented qb behind Milton
