Needs to throw $ at a strong recruiter at this level that can give KC guidance. Hopefully DW has set that expectation. Doubt Sam or Joy remain, will probably have other opportunities as well and seems a bit awkward. Her assistant from Marshall will probably follow, Rizor. She’s hired her the previous 2 stops she been at. Also, the former player that she coached at D2, she hired her on her staff at Marshall. So that’s possibly two assistant spots taken.
Heupel has improved the program, but stop pretending he is a home run hire, at least so far.
I know we are locked into playing ND at ND and Iowa in NYC next year. I think Florida State comes to us. Not sure about any other OOC games locked in, so not sure how much she can change those games without buyouts. Agreed on all the rest. I said we should have a great idea of how next year will go by the time the portal closes on 5/1.Heupel took the program from death's door to respectability. It's going to take about three more years to see if he's truly a home run, or not.
With CKC, we need to judge her in steps:
-1- Win the press conference tomorrow. Not hard, just set realistic short-term goals and broad long-term expectations, try not to look like a child that just pulled a golden ticket out of a chocolate bar.
-2- Introduce your staff - need to have some bonafides on it
-3- Turn on the NIL machine and get some 4-5 SEC quality players out of the portal (Danny had better have this lined up for her, because there's no way she should be expected to fundraise the big donors right out of the gate.)
-4- Set a realistic OOC schedule, this team will need to build some confidence.
-5- Improve each year and be at an E8 / Top 3 SEC level program by year 3.
We get to see #1 - #4 before the end of Summer. It's gonna be interesting.
That makes no sense to me. You're asserting that Kellie - a three time national champion P-5 player and a former coach at NC State - didn't understand the importance of having SEC calibre athletes at an SEC school? You actually think she thought she could get away with using mid-major level talent in the SEC? Makes no sense. Kellie's main problem was that she could not consistently recruit SEC talent, and she didn't develop the talent she attracted.Like Kellie, Kim will have to rethink some of her strategies to update them to SEC skill-levels.
An elite SunBelt athlete versus the elite athlete in SEC is far away a different skill level....also strategies don't readily transfer from a non-P5 to a power P5 university bc of the skill level of the athletes and the athletes you are playing against
I personally believe that Kellie wanted to try to mirror her success in the MVC to the SEC using MVC level players/recruits.....and it just doesn't work like that.
then you tell me a more believable scenarioThat makes no sense to me. It wasn't bwcause she thought she could get by w/o SEC caliber athletes, it was that she could not consistently get them, and sometimes couldn't develop them when she did get them. I know she did her best to try to get better players, and develop them, but she just couldn't get it done consistently enough.then you tell me a more believable scenario
Look at that 23-24 roster and tell me you see more than 5 SEC caliber athletes.
Coach Sam put a ton of worthy recruits in front of her,,,she couldn't close them.
Question,,,under Kellie who grew the most over their time here
Puckett, Jackson, Wynn,,,would be my picks
i see it differently in regard to Rickea. She had a big improvement on the defensive end and rebounding aspects. She also become better at the 3 and off the dribble. It wasn't bwcause she thought she could get by w/o SEC caliber athletes, it was that she could not consistently get them, and sometimes couldn't develop them when she did get them. She developed Puckett quickly as a good role player, but her lack of speed and quickness limits her development further. I don't see Jackson as a significantly better player than when she arrived. Same as Wynn. I think she developed Stripling nicely, given the same issues as Puckett. But the lack of development of Jillian is eye opening.
He’s definitely putting out all the PR for her: it’s probably a good thing too because I don’t think the average fan even knew she was until this week.Danny does know how to bring a girl on. Great press for Caldwell, love the website banner click through screen for her. Showing he’s willing to stand behind her.

Wynn also took a big step forward. She was very, very raw as freshman and a sophomore. It would have been impossible for her to have any passable minutes at PG in those first two years.
Jillian is one who stands out as having plateaued. I really thought she would have done more this season. I saw some mention that she was struggling with injuries but not confirmed.
