"I committed to Tennessee on Tuesday," Smith said. "I went up there last weekend and talked with the new coaches. I really like this coaching staff and I love the plan they have in place under coach (Lane) Kiffin. They have a great staff and I like the academics there. Tennessee is also a place where I have always wanted to be at. I feel good there on campus. It just feels right to me."
Another big reason why Smith decided to commit to the Volunteers was the idea of playing for new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.
"That guy inspires me. We had such a good talk and he told me all that he has done and who he has coached. We talked about his time in Tampa Bay and the defense he designed, the Tampa 2. He told me how he was going to teach me this system, how we would watch film of his NFL defense and stuff like that."
"But this is something I wanted to do. In the end, I just want to be at Tennessee."
