It was reported that Calapari meet with refs prior to the TN/KY game and gave them their instructions on how the game was to be called. He warned the officials that he would not stand for them letting TN manhandle his players. The officials obeyed Calaparin right down to calling 4 times the fouls on TN that they called on KY 27 to 7.
After the game Calapari congratulated his referees by telling them they called an excellent game. During the game a KY player shoved Golden in the back on a dead ball and Golden objected at which time the KY players surrounded him and a face off between TN and KY players was quickly broken up and a double foul was called. TN was called for a foul on most ever play for several minutes after the confrontation. KY players of course were allowed to continue to mug Maymon and Stokes without penalty every time the ball was taken inside. The fact that KY is the better team and would have almost certainly won the game in any event doesn't alter the bad taste that this kind of home cooking by officials leaves in the mouth of the fans of the opposing teams that are faced with incompentent or just plain crooked officiating.
