I heard some clips of the Bush press conference today. In one, he compared himself to Abraham Lincoln! WHHHAAAATTTTT!?!?

That's roughly the equivalent of Rosie O'Donell comparing herself to Angelina Jolie. They are both women, but that is where the comparison ends. Similarly, both Lincoln and Bush were presidents. But that is absolutely where the comparison ends.

Without a doubt, Bush will go down in history as one of the five worst presidents we've had through the first 45, while Lincoln of course is in the top five.

That would be the point. I can't imagine him saying something like that without context. That's why it matters.

I just saw a clip of Brett Baier talking about the interview. I'm not sure Bush really compared himself to Lincoln as far as "greatness". It sounds like Bush was comparing himself to Lincoln as far as their circumstances . . . being heavily criticized and unpopular for engaging in controversial wars.

Obama has compared himself to Lincoln, FDR, JFK, and probably George Washington.

Considering he's not even President yet, I'd say he has a lock on the BS comparison hyperbole.

and BPV, "context" doesn't matter with the Bush haters.

Exactly. To me, he is making it sound like he is in any way analogous to Lincoln and trying, weakly, to defend against the critics by saying Lincoln had them, too.

It was quite shocking.

I'd like to see the interview before saying one way or the other. Not sure that comparing the two situations is really that shocking. Now if he went a step further and compared his leadership to Lincoln's . . .

you don't know what your talking about. history will give him more credit than you do. i don't know why you're complaining, Bush grew government and started program after program. you really have no clue lawgaytor.

you need to thing through this a bit. Carter left nothing that might turn out positively for him. Bush left the biggest decision of his presidency out there unanswered. The Middle East situation changes any degree to the positive and his move in Iraq makes Obama's we're leaving Iraq immediately platform look a little retarded.

Just so we understand one another, being in the bottom 5 of MSNBC's list hardly qualifies.
