247Sports No. 1 ranked offensive tackle in the 2020 class Paris Johnson Jr. visited Tennessee and Georgia Tech this past weekend. The blue-chip recruit out of Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier has been a verbal to Ohio State since June. “We had a good time,” Monica Johnson, Paris’s mother told 247Sports.
“We were surprised by both campuses. Paris and I enjoyed it. We met some really great coaches. We went in with an open mind and didn’t know what to expect, and they invited us and we thought we’d go check it out. We reminded everyone Paris is still committed to Ohio State and reminded them he has not decommitted. We appreciated the invitation and thought we’d check it out.”
The 6-foot-7, 285-pound Johnson’s visit to Tennessee allowed him to tour the facilities, visit with Jeremy Pruitt and Will Friend and enjoy a basketball game. “What stood out the most with us was the coaching staff,” the elder Johnson said. “We don’t know those gentlemen so that’s what stood out the most. I love the Southern Hospitality you don’t get in the Midwest. We met the entire staff but Paris and I had an opportunity to sit down with the head coach and the offensive line coach, Coach Friend. It was really quickly, we probably spent two hours with them. We connected with the strength coach. He was a nice guy.”
Johnson could visit Knoxville again down the road. “We haven’t closed the door to it,” she said. Same goes with Georgia Tech. “Georgia Tech was the most surprising to me,” Johnson said. “Moreso than Tennessee. Paris was definitely surprised as well. The campus was absolutely beautiful. I thought the campus would have more of a city feel in the heart of Atlanta but I was really surprised it had a suburban college feel in the heart of Atlanta. Very beautiful campus. Students were very friendly. We met some faculty members, was great seeing Coach (Brent) Key again, we met him at Alabama. Everyone else was new to us on staff.”
